I'll be driving up I64 on the 18th or so and staying at one of my brothers house about 33 miles away. Figure I'd post this up now and see who chimes in !

Sorry to say I will not be able to make it this year. Our daughter will be in town that week for a visit. She rarely gets back in the time zone so I have to take advantage of those times when she does.

My current plan is to make it. I grew up north of there, so I figured I'd stay at my dad's house. However, looking at it now, that's still about 80 miles away.

Given that, I may just show up for a day. Next year I'll get a room far in advance. What day will be best? Movie Collector, I'd love to see your car next to mine!!

my son just started college at lincoln tech in indy and drives through effingham every Monday and Friday I will have him stop on his way through and see if there any new ones, if there is I will post them here.

Well bad news on the motel the only one new this year is the "fairfield inn" and it is already booked and has a waiting list. I called the chamber of commerce in Effingham and the pretty much said the same thing.

Anyone looking for a hotel ? Try calling MId-Am, They booked all of the rooms at the new Fairfield way before it was finished. The only way to get one if still available is to call them direct. good luck!

Well registered today and planning to do the walk. Time off has been at a premium lately, but my boss said to use personnal time. You don't need to ask in advance-just take it when you want it. Donna and I are planning to attend. Gotta find a room somewhere - any ideas?

Try the Super8 in Mattoon. I stayed there last year. It's an ok place and about a 30 minute drive north of Effingham.

Since it seems that finding a place (like a motel) close to the funfest is next to impossible, anyone know if camping on the grounds is an option? Has anyone tried it in the past??

staying on the grounds is okay, there are always a dozen motorhomes a couple of campers and a few tents in the back lot. Its hot during the day but is fairly cool at night.

...anything like..say...porta-poops in the camping area? I'm guessing something like a shower is asking way too much (would be nice to stay somewhat fresh...don't want to project the wrong image for C3 owners). It might be interesting to talk to someone that towed a camper with a corvette...not too sure about someone that would drive a motorhome to a corvette gathering..kinda reminds me of the guys who truck their bikes to Daytona for bike week..something just isn't right..

As it gets closer to the date , keep calling the hotels. The way I got mine two years ago was with a late cancellation. Now I have a place to stay close. I always make plans close to a year ahead for what I am doing the next year, you would not believe how many get cancelled LOL

Lake Sara has an excellant campgrond on it and it is seldom used as well. We stayed at the Tibers Lodge the 1st year we went and visited the campground. It was clean and nice. Being an avid camper I wouldn't hesitate to stay there if the price was right. Here are a couple of campground numbers if you choose to go this route and stay off MAM grounds.

Thanks so much for the camping info!! BTW, I just received a mailing from MAM that says the club parking entrance is Gate 5, and that display tags are required. I'm guessing that MAM will send these things to Adam, and then he is gonna mail 'em to us. Is this how did it worked last year, or are the display tags something new?

What they are referring to is the Fun Display Judging sticker that you will receive in the mail after you have preregistered.

This sticker has the Funfest Logo on it along with the year of your car, your registration number, name and mailing address on it. This needs to be placed on the upper drivers side corner of your windsheild.

There have not been any tags for club parking in the years past. Just head for that gate and they will direct you to your parking area. Keep in mind this can change as each year Funfest gets larger and Mikes team keeps trying to improve the gathering experience as a whole.

Adam or someone will know what this area is and may post that later. Mid America typically will let the club parking organizer know in advance where this will be.

Hi,
We will be rolling in Friday afternoon. My buddy's in a C4 so we will park on our own but we will certainly stop by the booth. See you all down there.

I stopped at Camp Lakewood when I was at Mid-Am in June. They don't have tent camping, only RV and campers.

Don't know about Lake Sara.

I'll be camping that weekend, only in the Adirondacks.

Thanks for that update Dave, I didn't know. I only knew these campgrounds were in the vicinity. Although, as previously stated I have been through Lake Sara campground. I would love to go there but it comes down to how much stuff can a guy pack along. Unless I could pull my camper with one of the vettes.....

For what it's worth, Newton Illinois's River Park Motel (618) 783-2327 has single rooms Friday night for......$27.00......found them on www.jaspercountytourism.com also on www.southeastillinois.com . I think the towns of Olney and Robinson also have motels w/rooms available. Not sure what 27 bucks will buy these days, but it's only 24 miles from Effingham on Rte 33.

I don't think it really matters if you have a C4 with you. Last year some guy parked a white C5 in the C3VR parking LOL

Somehow I think I resemble that remark. Mr. Scott if it makes ya feel better that same car will most likely be sitting there again. Of course so will Butch's C5, and maybe a 50th Annv. or two as well. Sometime we sacrifice style for comfort.....

mam has posted .pdf's of the 2007 brochure and a couple of maps of the grounds layout! And they are offering free "primitive" camping again this year w/ no reservations required!82-2tone2007-09-12 06:01:11

Thanks for the heads up.

As you can see on the maps, C3VR or "C3 Reg." will be located in area 23 "Club Row/Magazine Alley"

I sure hope everyone stops by to sign the member sign-in log and say hi. I'll also try to have cold bottled water available!
