* * * * * *  UPDATE  * * * * * *

My travel plans to The Gathering have finally come together.  Based on the list of current attendees it looks like a majority are coming from the east, southeast and midwest.  An overnight stop in Minot, ND leaves less than a 7 hour drive into Saskatoon and there is a good number of motels there to choose from.  If your travel route will take you through Minot chime in here.

I contacted the Microtel Inn & Suites in Minot about reserving a group of rooms for Tuesday night, the 16th.  I asked for a block of 6 to 10 rooms and was quoted a price of $68 for either a single or double queen room.  If this will fit into your travel plans please reply to this as soon as possible.  If there is enough interest I'll lock in the reservation block and post the info to get the rate.

I also asked about a block of rooms for Sunday night, the 21st.  The North Dakota State Fair runs from Friday, July 19th, through Saturday, the 27th, and was told that rooms will be at a premium for that period of time.  The same rooms would go up to $99.  From Minot Bismarck is less that 2 hours down the road and Jamestown is less than 3 hours so those might be better choices for Sunday night lodging.

Are we there yet...???   Thumbs Up

Looks like it is on my route. Sort of.
1517 miles from my house.
2-3 days depending on how I want to feel when I get there.

Arrive Tuesday night?

July will be here before we know it.

I'll probably visit in Fargo, leave Tuesday morning and drive 8.5 hrs to Moose Jaw Tuesday night. Then do the Al Capone Tunnels in the morning with a little sight seeing, then a 2.5 hr drive north to Saskatoon might be a plan.

Not sure which map you're looking at my friend but when I plug Victor, NY to Saskatoon, SK into Google Maps it show 3 main routes:
  • 1,921 miles (29 hrs),
  • 1,860 miles (30 hrs) and
  • 1,937 miles (32 hrs)
I know you're a "Road Warrior" but if you do any of those routes I saw in 2 days I'll by the first 3 rounds...!!!   Shocked   Beer  Thumbs Up

Yes - arrive in Minot on Tuesday.

My plans are still a little up in the air.  Weighing a couple of options plus waiting for some more info.

I would think it would be less than 8.5 hours John. Sara and I always do Fargo the first day and I thought it was an easy 10 from my house

An optional route for us coming from southeast PA takes us through Minot so we could stop there. We have a stop to visit relatives near South Bend IN and would then travel up Mi from there. It's looking like this will be our route. We would like to avoid Chicago area.

Sorry Jim, That was from my house to Minot, ND.
Not sure if I would go north of Lake Ontario or south.
Might be able to do 1517 miles in two days, but it will depend on who I hook up with, if anyone.
Traveling by myself I get an early start like 6 AM and drive for 12 hours, covering 750 miles.

But with a caravan probably only do 500 miles per day, so three days to Minot.
Leave Sunday morning, arrive Tuesday evening.

OOPS...!!!  Embarrassed   SORRY...!!!  But regardless you're still a "Road Warrior"...!!!

Cutting through Canuckland from Buffalo to Port Huron and then heading up thru Michigan, Wisconsin and Minne-snow-ta to get to Minot is shorter distance-wise but a little longer time-wise.  It would be a pretty drive tho'.  Cool   AND you'd miss the fun of going through Cleveland and Chicago.   Thumbs Up

Dwight if you plan on coming thru Ontario add a couple days to your list. It took me 20 hours to come across there, speed limit is only 90 km/hr, it is often rainy and foggy passing lanes are a long ways apart and in summer when the campers are on the road I was often only doing 70 km/hr. I said never again would i drive ontario

Margie and I are still planning on going if no more emergencies crop up (like last year).  Our plans put us in Minot on Tuesday nite, so we could meet up too.  Sounds like a great time.

If you are doing MJ on the Tuesday, there is a little place to eat called 'Rosie's on River Street'
address is 11C River Street
This little gem got it's name from the local Madam of River Street Rosie Dale.  She was forced off River Street for not paying 'protection' money to the corrupt police chief of the time.  So she trained unmanned horses to pick up the 'Johns" on River street and to take them to where she set up shop just outside of the city limits, and out of the police jurisdiction.
It's located about 150 meters from the entrance to the tunnel tours.  there is lots of neat history in downtown Moose Jaw

No problem.  Either route you take the scenery will be pretty much the same - FLAT...!!!  LOL   My middle sister lived in Winnipeg for a number years so traveled up there several times.  I-29 north from Fargo is about as interesting as I-80 across Nebraska.  At least going across Nebraska you can keep yourself entertained by counting the number of times you cross the Platte River...!!!   Sleepy  Wacko

See ya there...!!!

OK we have reservations made for the Microtel Inn in Minot ND for Tuesday night July 16th. We have a DQ room. Went to AAA yesterday and gave them all the places we want to go and see and a Triptik is being made, which I'm sure will change several times before the trip. Just have to make sure I have the leaks solved on the 99's convertible top before we go.

Folks coming in east and south - where will you be overnighting on Monday, the 15?

The reason for asking is I'm flying into the Twin Cities Monday in the late afternoon and Pete (PJK82CE) is picking me up.  We're trying to decide whether to head back east to his place for the night or continue northwest and overnight somewhere outside the TC area.

If you can try to avoid going through the Twin Cities during the rush hours of 3:00 to 6:00 in the afternoon/evening and 6:00 to 9:00 in the morning.  I understand the non-winter season called "Road Construction" is in full swing so that will impact travel times through the TC Metro area, especially during the morning and evening rush hours.

We haven't made any reservations yet for the nights of the 14th and 15th. On the 13th we have reservations at Super 8 in Ashland Wisconsin. Kinda thought we might try winging it from Ashland and see how far we get each of those nights. Suggestions anybody?
