Ladies and Gentlemen, Start your Engines, C3 engines that is and motor to the C3VR Midwest Region Spring get-together April 24 thru April 26, 2009 in Kokomo, Indiana.  As promised in the previous post regarding hotel information for this event, below is the planned agenda complete with editorial comment:

NOTE:  We encourage you to arrange to arrive on Thursday April, 23 due to the planned events for Friday.  See agenda for details.

Thursday, April 23, 2009

6:30 p.m. - 6:45 p.m.  Gather in lobby of hotel

7:00 p.m. - Dinner at Grindstone Charley's
                        3830 S. Lafountain St.

Grindstone Charley's is a local area Restaurant/Bar serving moderately priced American cusine such as soup, salads, steak/ribs, sandwiches (excellent pork tenderloin and burgers), appetizers, etc.

Friday, April 24, 2009

???   a.m. - 8:45 a.m.  Breakfast at hotel

8:45  a.m. - 9:00 a.m.  Gather in Lobby of hotel

9:00 a.m. SHARP!!!  Leave hotel and travel  to Kokomo Opalescent Glass Co., Inc for tour

This company is the oldest manufacturer of hand cast, rolled cathedral and opalescent glass in America.  The factory has been at this location since 1888 and has documented sales to Louis C. Tiffany.  No open-toed shoes, clogs, or sandals are allowed on the tour.  There is a $1 per person tour fee.  After the tour of the plant and glass making techniques, we will have time to visit the Op Shop which is located on the premises and is the retail division of Kokomo Opalescent Glass Co., Inc. The Op Shop has finished products made of Kokomo glass that are of superior workmanship and custom original design.  The Op Shop offers finished items such as suncatcheres, window panels, paperweights, and lamp shades.  I believe both the guys and ladies will enjoy this tour.

We must leave the hotel promptly at 9:00 a.m. to arrive no later than 9:30 a.m. since glass production work begins at 4:00 a.m. and the tour must fit around the lunch schedule, which is mid-morning.  The tour is only avaiable in the morning on weekdays.

9:30 a.m. - 11:15 a.m.   Opalescent Glass Co. tour

- 11:15 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.  Travel to lunch

- 11:30 a.m. -  1:00 p.m.  Lunch at PASTArrific Italian Restaurant.

PASTArrific offers appetizes, salads and soups, 9" pizza, sandwiches, pasta dishes and Italian specialties on the lunch menu in the $3.95 to 7.95 price range.  Food and service were good.

-  1:00 p.m. - 1:30 p.m.  Travel to Automotive Heritage Museum

-  1:30 p.m. - ??????? - Tour Automotive Heritage Museum

There are approximately 100 automobiles from the 1890's to the 1970's under one roof.  In addition you will learn about products invented and manufactured in Kokomo such as the Kingston's carburetors, Delco's Wonderbar Radio and Chrysler's one millionth transmission. Also see an authenic 50's diner.  There is a group rate of $3 per person for entrance to the museum.

-   1:30 p.m. - ??????? -  Alternative Activity

In the unlikely event there are some who would prefer not to visit the automotive museum, there are two shopping malls; the Markland Mall and the Kokomo Mall located on US 31 a short distance north of the hotel.  In addition, the Main and Markland Antique District is just West of the Markland Mall (on Markland Rd.) at Main St.

After the Automotive Heritage Museum and the Alternative Activity on Friday afternoon, the rest of the day is free time until we meet in the lobby to go to dinner.

-  6:30 p.m. - 6:45 p.m. - Gather in Lobby of hotel

-  6:45 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. - Travel to Dinner

-  7:00 p.m.  -  Dinner at Backyard BAR-B-Q

This BBQ restaurant came highly recommended by locals.  They specialize in Southern Hickory Smoked meat.  They serve their meats straight up from the smoker without sauce, however a wide selection of tasty sauces are available.  Sauces include Tennesse HOT or Tennessee MILD on pulled pork, Texas HOT and Texas MILD on ribs and beef brisket.  In addition, Carolina Mustard and Alabama White Sauce are two other sauces offered.  Prices are moderate.  This restaurant alone should entice Stingray Jim and crew to attend.  Hope to see you guys (and Angel) in Kokomo.

There are no formal plans for after dinner Friday night, however, we can go back to the hotel and gather in the parking lot (weather permitting) or maybe the pool area and socialize.  Anybody want to organize a pajama party?  Tux in a "Tux" ?  Remember, this is a family event.

NOTE:   Make arrangements to have your gas tank full before the Saturday morning road trip at 9:00 a.m.

Saturday April 25, 2009

??? - 9:00 a.m. - Breakfast at hotel

-  9:00 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. Gather in Lobby of hotel. Prepare for short road trip to Sharpsville, Indiana/Line up/Hand out maps/Driver's meeting, etc.

- 9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. - Scenic cruise/road trip to Sharpsville, Indiana

We are tentatively planning, weather permitting, on a short scenic cruise on our way to Sharpsville, Indiana.  I was thinking of maybe 70 to 80 miles, at legal highway speed, with a rest stop during the drive.  The key word here is scenic.  Folks, this is not Colorado or the coast of California or northern Michigan.  There are scenic corn fields on your left and scenic soy bean fields on your right.  Up ahead there is a scenic hayfield.  This area is why people used to think the world was flat.  You get my drift.  However, Kokomo and the surrounding area is great and has lots to offer so I am confident we will come up with some kind of road trip that will allow us to excercise our Corvettes a little bit.

- 11:30 a.m. - ?????  Arrive at "A Summer Place", eat lunch and tour this amazing facility

"A Summer Place" is a real working 1950's town situated on 3 acres of ground.  The owner and creator, Mr. Jim Richardson is a history buff and loved the 1950's era in which he grew up in Indiana.  He re-created a period correct fictional town of the 1950's and filled it with automobiles, artifacts, signs, and other appropriate period memorabilia  There is plenty to see and enjoy with a Standard Oil service station, working movie theater with marquee, police and fire station, barber shop, a train station and a working stainless steel Angel's diner.  We have heard many excellent comments and reviews of this attraction.

We are visiting "A Summer Place" as a private group and it will not be open to the public during our visit.  The cost is $15 per person and this includes your lunch.  The admission charge is donated to "A Home For Every Child Foundation", a charity that assists in finding adoptive homes for orphan children.

There are no other planned events for Saturday afternoon.  After we arrive at "A Summer Place" you are on your own to eat lunch, tour the facility and spend the rest of the afternoon as you choose.  Sharpsville is only about 15 - 20 minutes from our hotel.  We will provide maps to direct you from "A Summer Place" back to the hotel so you may return at your leisure or we can return as a group.  We can play this by ear on Saturday.

-  6:00 p.m. - 6:15 p.m. - Gather in Lobby of hotel

-  6:15 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. - Travel to Dinner

-  6:30 p.m.- 8:00 p.m. - Dinner at Martino's Restaurant

Martino's is a local restaurant that has been serving Kokomo for the past 35 years so they must be doing something right.  The Italian recipes they feature are their own original recipes.  The prices are moderate ranging from $9.95 to $11.95 for pasta dishes and up to $15.95 for the t-Bone steak.  The Hamildain's can attest to good food and a pleasant and enjoyable dining experience.

-  8:30 p.m. - ??????  -  Informal group meeting of all attendees in the hotel meeting room.

Note:   If you see Terry Moore with a limbo stick, be forewarned.  The hosts will not be providing Tylenol, Ibuprofen, or any other pain relief medication.  However, there will be some mind stimulating activities (games), etc.

Sunday, April 26,2009

????? - 8:30 a.m. - Breakfast at Hotel

8:30 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. - Check Out/Gather in Lobby

9:00 a..m. - 9:15 a.m. - Travel to Highland Park for group photo w/cars

9:15 a.m. -  10:00 a.m. - Photo Shoot

10:00 a.m. - ??????? - C3VR Midwest Region Spring get-together officially over.  Socialize/Say goodby's/leave for home as necessary.

The agenda for Sunday morning is not set in stone for obvious reasons.  If the group feels it needs to be re-arranged to accommodate travel plans then we can and will do that.  This is an item that can be discussed at the group meeting.

Again, let us know when you are arriving and if you plan to attend dinner on Thursday night.  Mike will set up a post to keep you informed of who is coming and when.

If you have any questions regarding the agenda or any of the planned activities please contact Mike or myself or leave a post on this thread and we will respond. Also, you may call me at 314-623-1260.

We sure hope you can make it.  Would like to see you and your very nice car.  You may want to contact Terry (dsireme) who is from the Milwaukee area.  She responded to the post on hotel information and advised she was coming in on Thursday.  Maybe you guys could caravan down.

Tux:

Mike and Terry came up with the Kokomo location and attractions.  They did a great job.  We will not have any of this "hope to see you there" stuff.
We expect to see you and Mrs. Tux at the get together.  Gotta catch up you know.

I am trying to talk Stringray into coming.  The problem is Jimmy and Angel cannot make it and he is hesitant about driving alone.

SEE YOU IN APRIL.

Marshall:  You are welcome.  Mike and Terry did the yeoman's work of coming up with Kokomo, A Summer Place and the other attractions.  Pat and I helped test restuarants.  Tough work.

No Thursday arrival for Mrs Tux... and I. Fact is I am still struggling with one of my employers for weekend time off.

But not to worry..... Like the old Burger King Theme..... "Have it your way.." We plan on arriving Friday evening.

Although some of my weekend fun stuff will arrive on Thursday ala courier Vette....

Hey everybody:

Just a quick note to tell everyone that Pat and I will not be able to attend the midwest region cruise in Kokomo.  I have been having some serious nose bleeding issues that required a couple of days in the hospital.  I have had blood vessels cauterized and more things crammed into my sinus cavity than I care to remember (OK, TMI).  Anyway, I have not had any serious bleeding for two days.  According to the ENT surgeon, Friday is the critical day. Thus, he had advised me not to travel at all and to stay relatively quiet.  In addition, I have an appointment with the ENT Dr. on Friday.

As you know, Pat and I love corvettes and our C3, but it is about the people that make up this group.  We look forward to every one of our meetings/get-togethers in order to see our friends and meet new attendees.  As you can imagine, we are extremely disappointed that these circumstances require our cancellation of the trip, however we will be with you in sprit.  WE WILL MISS ALL OF YOU!  We consider it a blessing to be associated with the Corvette family and especially the C3VR Midwest Group.

Mike and Terry have done a fantastic job in putting this event together and I am sure you will all have a great time.  Please remember to drive carefully on your way to Kokomo and back home, as well as during the cruise.  We want everyone to have a fun and safe trip.

Let's plan another get together before September!!!!!  God Bless You All.

See you soon

Bob

Bob, I am so sorry to hear you are not feeling well. I was looking forward to seeing the two of you in Kokomo  but I do understand. I will keep this short since my typing cannot keep up with the post timer. Keep us informed and if there is anything we can do, we are not that far away. I am up and about and can hardly sit still now. I will probably over do it again and have to sit a while lol...

Take care and I hope to see you both soon.

Hi Scott:

Thanks for the kind words.  We will miss seeing you and Susie also.  Hope you are feeling much better for the midwest region event.  We will see you soon.  I saw your pictures of the Harley as it was being put back together.  The rear end looked great.  I had the Road King our the day before the nose bleeding started.  Got it inspected, new plates, etc.  I am still looking to trade up to an Electra Glide Classic with the 6-speed, 96 cube motor, etc.  Maybe can do that this year.   We will have to ride some when you feel like it.

Be safe and have a great time.

Bob

Hey Terry:

Thanks for the kind words.  I know only too well that part about not getting any younger.  I am sorry we cannot come also.  We will miss all of the gang, but know we will see you sometime soon.  SRJ will keep me posted as to the events in Kokomo I am sure.  You and your wonderful bride drive carefully and have a great time.

God Bless

All mine needs is a couple of small things like a reflector or two and  I sent the new seat out to be custom fit and have gel pads put in it. As soon as mine is ready I will ride . I am just stuborn enough to get on it.
Like I said before , we look forward to seeing you two. if you get out and need a place to ride to , come on over! Even if I can't ride yet, we can sit and look at them and talk abou the wives . Shocked LOL

Get well my friend and we will see you soon !

Dear Bob, just saw that you  and Pat will not be able to go to Kokomo, but your health is the MOST
important thing right now. Butch was really looking forward to eating ribs with you, so he is kinda
wondering if he'll enjoy them now without his eatin' buddy!  He and I both will miss youand Pat, but please take care of yourself. At least, you have a good nurse to take care of you and that will make all the difference.  Please be well and we will see you sooner than you think. We will have to have something in June? but it will have to be after June 13th. The hospital is having a 50th Anniversay
show that week-end and I'm part of that.  Be well and know that we will be thinking about you.

Thanks for the nice comments.  We were really looking forward to coming, however, when the Doc says NO WAY!. you have to heed his warning.  I was looking forward to eating ribs with Butch also.  In fact, Butch was one of the reasons we picked the place.  We talked with several locals and they raved about it and another couple drove two hours from northern Indiana to eat there.  They have lots of different sauces, including one that is a KENTUCKY type sauce.  I look forward to Butch's review.  Oh and one thing more, this BAR-B-Q establishment does not serve beer.  We took a vote and it was unanimously agreed that we would let you tell Butch that little tid bit.  Thanks.  We will miss you guys and hope to see you soon.  Have a great time and be safe.

I am not sure I want a hack on my Road King, but as you are still considered our Grand Poo Pah of the Midwest Region, I will be glad to accommodate you with a ride on the bike sometime.  However, until I get my Ultra Classic like Scott has, your posterior would be more comfortable on Scott's bike

Ha...... No rear seat riding for this guy! As a kid until I left home there was never a day when motorcycles were not parked in the garage. (My dad used to repair and build them.) My last ride with someone was on a Buell..... I still have the scratch marks to prove it! (Cat Scratch Fever)

I raced MX bikes for lotsa years until the brain surgery.... (An you thought I was always like this, I used to be a nice guy...)

None the less, I was just kiddin bout the side hack.... at least for you. Now Scott well...... that might be a different story.
