No chip...those are programmable PCMs(Powertrain Control Module).
He'll need to either purchase a programmer, or take it to a shop that has the capability to do it.

My guess that modifying in to anything other than what "The General" has deemed appropriate will void the warranty.  The tuner shops should know what is "legal" and what isn't.

Once He finds somebody to do it He will Find that it will do so Little that He will never know the Diffrence. There is no Free Horsepower that the General is Holding back. The Rule of Thumb is that the Higher the HP of the Car on the Showroom Floor the Less Gain a Reprogram will Do. On the other end of the Scale is a Diesel Truck wich has a Lot held back. Other wise they would Break. Richard....

He would be wise to spend his money on other options, like custom intake and exhaust.
Does he really need more HP?

He can also check out the C6 forum.

one of the problems with reprogramming the PCM is that if you have to take it in for service to the dealer, sometimes to make sure the PCM is working OK they will re-flash it (re-install the original program) and there goes your set-up. I don't think it's worth doing at all.

Dave brings up a very valid point, there. Although the reprogram itself may or may not compromise the factory warranty, if there is a recall, or TSB that require a re-flash, the original program will have to be re-installed before the updated program will work.
He may want to wait until the factory warranty is out to do anything, unless he doesn't care about that aspect. There are factory programs that will update some of the fuel/ign specs.

Have your dad(or you) to check out our "sister" site C6VR. There is a lot of info there for these cars...some of it may be a bit dated, but still a good place to start. He can even join the site...for free!

btw...doen't look like the carpet deal is gonna go thru any time soon...Adams' Apple2007-04-19 06:37:09

I did a Diablo tune on my 2003 Z-71 Tahoe & gained 48HP & 27'tq at the rear wheels. I also have a cold air intake. With the Diablo I keep the programer & can go back & forth from stock to performance anytime I want. I did have it done in a speed shop that has a DYNO. Also increased my pressure in the transmission to get more positive shifts. I do have to run prem fuel now , but the gas mileage went up 1mpg so that's a trade off.

I know this isn't no C6 question, but do they make a chip for the C5?

No chip for C5's either. It (the ECM) has to be reflashed with a programmer.
