I am thinking about buying a new Vette.  I drive my C3 a lot, but I would like something that gets better mileage, that my wife enjoys, that I can take on long trips, and still has Corvette written on it.  So the question is;

"Which is better the C5 Z06 or a standard C6?"

I appreciate all input since this is going to be a costly deceision.

Ok, this belongs in the general vette discusion forum.  Help me!!!

JR, just for starters the C5 ZO6 has the abbreviated roofline/rear glass design, while the C6 has the more 'familiar' full hatchback. So storage room is reduced in the 5 model. Since you mentioned wanting to be able to take the car on long trips, that might prove to be a factor in your decision-making.

Well, to be honest with ya, I really like my C5 because it gets 30 mpg (if you keep your foot outta it), it still has the pop-up headlights, and it's got lots of STORAGE (it's a coupe).  It's not a Z06, but it still has PLENTY of POOP (6 speed).  If I wanted to race, had lots of money and a lot of free time, I would buy a C6 Z06.  Otherwise, all that horsepower is only good for a speeding ticket if you punch it on the freeway.  They also CUT quite a bit of the "Storage" out of the back on the C6's.  .......This is just IMHO. Wink

I was lookin' at them and even had a Sales guy go down on the price.  I got him down to $38,000. for an '07.  I didn't buy it because it was RED...Rolling%20On%20The%20Floor%20LaughingRolling%20On%20The%20Floor%20LaughingRolling%20On%20The%20Floor%20LaughingRolling%20On%20The%20Floor%20Laughing

I also think you would like the ride better in a C-6, the Z-06 can be a little on the stiff side

If you can buy a 2007 C6 for 38k, I'd definitely go that route. The 5 year/100k warranty would also be a big plus. No offense intended to the C5, but I have ridden in both and I think the C6 has a better ride and improved interior.

I compared some performance figures and the standard C6 has very similar numbers to the C5 Z06 model, but something I didn't think about...STORAGE.  I think I will look at what is available and go fo the best deal.  The C5 Z06's still hold value pretty good.  But a warrenty would be nice...

Something else to think about. The C6 with the Z51 package has all the goodies that the Z06 has except for the engine and the wild price tag. You can get one for around 50K.
