Mick! That's truly awful--I'm so sorry to hear about/see your damaged black beauty. But at least you're OK--and the body shop can put her right back to tip-top shape.

Hang in there, girl--you still have two great Corvettes, and they're both gonna be back in operation some time soon.

It's pretty bad out there, isn't it? If it's not the crazy drivers, it's debris flying at you out of nowhere.

(P.S. I drove a Chevy Cobalt just a couple of weeks ago. A rental car. I was not too impressed; I'd expected better. But at least it'll get you around pretty economically--and it'll definitely make you appreciate your C3/5 all the more when you have 'em back!)

Micki,
Sorry to see Otis hurting so badly. Hope all can be put back together to YOUR satisfaction.
When are they going to outlaw retreads?
This shows how dangerous they are when they let loose.
And I am sure it is always at high speed.
I don't like being anywhere near 18 wheelers on the highway.

The corvette nation feels your pain!

Here is a small measure of poetic justice if it will help to ease your pain:

Twas a warm summer night and I was headed home in Molly (my daily driver, Chrysler Sebring convertible, top down!). Crossing the Minnesota river on I-494 , I hit one of those gosh darn things. Did no damage to Molly, but nailed the 18 wheeler behind me, who was really following a bit too close.  Hit 'em flush in the right fender, smashing the headlights! There is a god

About 5 years ago I bought a brand new Mazda Pro-5 wagon.  I had the car about a week.  On I78 going to a Mets Game, same thing happened doing about 75mph.  I lost my bumper, destroyed the hood etc.  Prob was it caved in the a-piller.  THANKFULLY this happened right next to a State Trooper.  Limited misery....  This will scare the tar out of you...

Sorry to hear about the misfortune Micki.  My daughter had the same thing happen with her '94 Honda Prelude.  It is just about as low to the ground as a C5 so know your pain.

Glad there were no people injuries (other than strained vocal cords!).

Ouch!!!  Cry   Now THAT is some serious damage.  Hard to believe that a retread would cause all of that damage, but when the rubber meets the plastic . . . .  Sorry to hear you are without a Vette, Mick.  Hang in there, 'cause this, too, shall pass.  (pssst . . . stay away from them 18-wheelers!!  Bad fer yer health.)

About a month ago my minivan got totaled, and they gave me a Ford Focus to drive.   I could not get Debbie in and out of the thing without her having pain.  They they gave me a PT Cruiser.  That worked for us.   Now I have another MiniVan.  the 97 Grand Caravan is gone, but the 98 Grand Caravan is here.

They said that the retread went under my back tire and flew up and hit the back bumper and did some damage. Ouch  I looked at it (not real good) when I was at the body shop, but I didn't see anything. Confused Nothing underneath is damaged on the undercarriage. Big%20smileClapClap It's just fiberglass damage.  The front and rear are Styrofoam.  Nothing is pushed in or damaged on it either, so that's positive!  I just wish it was home.  My '69 Greypoopon is in the shop too. CryCryCry Don't know when I'll get it back either. CryCry I'm callin' about it tomorrow. Wink Big%20smile

Thanks, Terry. Hug

While the front end on Otis is dis-assembled, now would be the time to dig out the build sheet...it is rolled up, and stuffed into the front crossmember/bumper support...

Micki if the body shop hasn't already ordered yer OEM front and rear facia's yet have them quote you the price.

My past experience is that the tiger shark facia's may still be within your grasp. Typically the OEM stuff will run higher. Alot of time use of aftermarket products can save you money.

That being the case you can use any dough saved on the Poupon Car...

Good idea, but I called the shop when I got home and they have already ordered the bumpers and they were painting them today.  He said they will start assembling them tomorrow.  Drats! Unhappy He did say he's gonna put some thick torch red "C O R V E T T E" letters on the rear bumper free of charge.  That will look better than what I had on there. Mick...Chuck and Dave ain't gonna "rush" fixin the pooped-on car, unless'n you ride em.(not a good idea) Those guys are perfectionists...they'll do a good job, and you'll definitely get your money's worth. I knows ya wants 'er back, but..."Payshunts, Glasshopper..."

Sorry to hear about your vettes Micki. I'm just glad that neither you or Joel's Mrs. were hurt.

Give both places time to work on your babies. It might seem to take forever, but if you have good shops you know they are doing it right.

Mine has been gone for over a month now, tracing wiring issues with my guages and fixing the vacuum system. I will it back this week, and even though I miss it a lot, I know the wait will have been worth it.

Mick, I am just getting back in the swing of things after going to the museum (12 hrs with the tops down is tuff).

I'm sorry to hear about your car.  71Shark and I saw a LOT of recaps laying all over the highway.  There was a motor home that had apparently been hit by a whole tire that blew off the rim sitting on the side of the road.

I sure was glad to hear that you and Mrs. Adams were OK.

I know how you feel, not having a vette for a while.  Mine went to the painter in Feb and didn't come out till July due to weather.  Joel is right, if the guys are anal (and my guy gives a whole new meaning to the word), you want to let them do their stuff.

When my car came back, the screws on the side pipe covers were clocked exactly the same on both sides of the car, but damn, she looked good!!!

Glad yer OK!

I got the same look from Mrs. Adams when Tootie (the Chihuahua dog) came out of her purse and had a bad case of diarrhea on the console glove box. Rolling%20On%20The%20Floor%20LaughingRolling%20On%20The%20Floor%20LaughingRolling%20On%20The%20Floor%20Laughing......Gross, but true! DeadLOL

Went by the body shop TODAY and I saw them puttin' on Otis' back tail lights in his new bumper.  He's getting assembled finally....I'll be afraid to drive him when he's completed. Shocked

We've been doin alot of boatin.  Trying to get in a few river trips before winter sets in.  Looks like the money for a "new" car may go for boat fix up instead.  Of course, with what we'll spend fixing up the boat, I could buy a brand new Vette!  At least we can live on the boat if we have too....can't live in a Vette.  Gotta see what the surveyer says about increased value before deciding.

Also been swamped with "back-to-school" stuff.  God I hate back-to-school time!  Means the end of flexible kid schedules!!!!
