I know that while not only has the 2010 gathering not happened yet, the details are not even finalized.

However, after this past weekend, it has become apparent that we need to discuss an option for our 2011 gathering now.

It had come to my attention that Mike Yager (of Mid America Motorworks, one of C3VR's sponsors and hosts of the famous "Funfest") has invited us to come visit their facility as a group and get a intimate look at how they produce their C3 parts & accessories.  So, while I was at Funfest 2009 this past weekend, I met with Mike Yager.  While he took me on a tour of their Performance Choice facility, we discussed a visit by C3VR.  I told him that our 2010 gathering was already set for the Western US and that would mean we wouldn't be looking to the Central US again until 2011.  He told me that 2011 would be fine.  We'd probably be looking at Spring so as to not interfere with Funfest in September.

I also asked him if he wanted it to just be the C3VR folk or make an event for all C3s.  He answered my question by asking "What do YOU want?"

After speaking with a few C3VR members during Funfest, it seems the majority of folk think it should be an ALL C3 event.  It would give all C3 owners out there an event of their own, and gives C3VR the potential to gain new members.  At the same time, it offers Mike the ability to be intimate with a larger portion of his C3 market.  Which is what Mike is hoping to get out of this. He wants to be able to sit down with us and hear what type of things we are looking for.  He wants to ask us questions and he wants us to ask them questions.  Mike can use the power of his customer base, catalogs, website and other connections to help publicize the event.  I also met with the editor of Corvette Enthusiast magazine who said he'd write an article about it to help promote it as well.

While the exact details have certainly not been worked out yet, some ideas are... seminars, road-tours, tours of the MAM facilities, helping to make carpet sets (someone can buy a set while we are there, and help make the set they are going to bring home!) . Oh, and it is possible they might have a race track on site by then.  Mike & his staff would likely plan most of the event, making it a very easy year for us!

So, at this point, my questions to you are these:
 1. Should we take Mike up on his offer and have our 2011 gathering at MAM?
 2. Would you like to see this be a C3VR or ALL C3 event?
Let's open this up to discussion for about a week, then I'll get back with Mike to start working out a plan.

Thanks!

   Adam:
Here's is my 2 cents worth. I think it would be a no-brainer to hold our meet there especially if we can get all of that FREE advertising you mention. I know that there are a lot of interesting places in the Middle of this great country to see but to hold out meet at one of the best Corvette parts houses in this country AND invite ALL other C3 owners I think would be AWESOME. I've been buying C3(and now C6 too) parts from Mike for years and have never had a bit of trouble with any of his parts. We can go on a side trip to some other interesting site on one of our days there if we want. Let the planning begin!!! This could be our biggest gathering yet.

Sounds great, I can make it, I'm sure. I'm open to a C3VR or an all C3 thing.
You got my vote.

I was there in 2007 and enjoyed the hour or two that I was there, but what else is there to do in that area?
I was hoping for Branson, MO or St. Louis or some interesting area like that.
If we do go to MAM, it should be open to all C3 owners.

Great idea. Can it still be the "C3VR Gathering" tho if it is put out there as "Open to anyone with a Shark"? Not that I would care, personally...the more the merrier! It would be sorta like the old "C3X" at the NCM, no??
Heck...I say we lean towards doing it at least once. If it doesn't work out as well as past Gatherings, then we can do something different next time...all in favor???
EYE!

To Dave's point... I'm sure the folks at MAM would plan a full day but likey two days worth of activities.
To include Joel's point, if it were open all C3s, we could plan a few events outside the MAM events that could be just for us. And I like what you said abot trying it once. Compared to the NCM, mike can reach millions whereas they can reach only thousands. So it would hopefully be much better publicized, and therefore better attended than the C3X.

Dave, when Adam mentioned this to me at Funfest, the question of what else to do was on my mind as well.  As I drove home, I watched for things and thought about it.  I know there is Rockome Gardens nearby (about 30 miles) as well as a site where Lincoln lived near Charleston (about 35-40 miles away).  I can also think of a few other things that are nearby that could interest folks.

Adam, I already told you, I'm very interested and I think this could be great!  I say bring on all C3's and let's party!!

And if it is held in the Spring (like May), it will be better attended than an event in October.
Just check the calendar so we don't conflict with any major Vette events.

Clap I concur with the group so far. I say GO FOR IT. Dates and plans can be made easily this early. I would love to get to that area and at least visit the close where my ride was birthed. Let ALL the C3s participate and enjoy a crowd of like vintage.  Can you imagine a motel dedicated, or more than one motel with nothing but but C3s parked at it?

I'm in and I will be ready for carpet set for the project car by then.

Lets see first stop pick up Dave Wright, next stop Corvette 440 (Larrys House), then onto Marshal and Candi's ranch for that skinny dippin party. Yep ebo's in. Looks like 13 hours 834 miles. And if we plan this far ahead the rooms may be freeBig smile

It was awesome to hear Mike speak so frankly about his plan. He truly knows his cars and is a huge supporter of the Corvette. I have relatives in the Effingham area as most of you know so I'm biased in my decision to say let's go for it. There are lot's of things to do outside of Effingham:

  - Casino's in St Louis and St Charles.
  - Cardinals Baseball game (It would be awesome to be there for a Cubs/Cards game)
  - Anheuser Busch tours
  - Six Flags
  - Gateway Raceway (of course if Mike has the track built.... Big smile)
  - Route 66 ( I have some great pics from the drive including Soulsbys Gas Station) We used to do poker runs on Rt 66 with the Looking Glass Corvette Club.
  - The Arch and Museum
  - Riverboat cruises

I'm sure I can come up with more if I think about it. It's not that far to St Louis....

Man, I agree its a no-brainer. Just set the date and me and Jackie will be there. I think Adam's idea to make it open to all C3's would be cool! Although I would like to have a host hotel for C3VR so the group could stay together. I'm guessing that it would be a two day trip to get up there but I'll see. Lets do it!

The idea of having it in the Spring was already considered and thought to be the right call.  Also, Tux and Butch did some negotiating at the Days Inn and have a great arranged rate setup in Effingham for any time a C3VR event is near.

Adam,
This is such a great idea.  I know that Mike will get alot out of this and includind all C-3 owners would be fun.  I am sur that we can lobby with one of the local motels to get a good rate, hell I would be happy to spear-head this if Larry does not want too.  I would go tho this event in a heart-beat !!

I agree that this is a great idea!Thumbs Up  An all C3 event sounds exciting.  I'm sure Adam will promote C3VR to the fullest.  This can be very benefical to our group!!
I would like to see several activies just for C3VR, though.  Might even entice a few new members.
According to Barry, it's only one year and nine months away, so I'm making plans.Wink

I also think it would be great to include all C3s in the event.  Picking a date in May or June would probably be the best.  Too early and folks living in the northern tier of states may not have their cars out of winter hibernation yet.
I also think it would be great to include all C3s in the event.  Picking a date in May or June would probably be the best.  Too early and folks living in the northern tier of states may not have their cars out of winter hibernation yet.
How about the third weekend in May.

The weather is starting to get nice.

It's after Mother's Day and before Memorial Day.

June starts to get busy with weddings, graduations, final exams, car shows, cruise-ins.

Any other ideas?

Adam:

I believe holding the 2011 annual meeting at Mid America would be great.  I think it would be a great opportunity, especially if all C3's were included.  I especially liked the idea from Targa Blue 72 about some exclusive activiyies for C3VR members only.  I think we should make this happen for 2011.  Let me know if I can help in any way

I think it's a great idea.  Thumbs Up  I like having it open to all C3s too.  C3VR could recruit members, and we could talk about what kind of products we'd like to see MAM sell for our cars.  It's a win win for everyone.

Great exsposure for C3VR. I vote yes to the location, yes to all C3s, yes to time of year. Great idea to have host hotel for C3VR members only. But most exciting to see Corvette Summer car. What a influence it was on a 16 year old. Mikes museum has a lot of cool cars to see. Keep Branson, Mo in mind for future events, lot's to do and see.

I think some recognition to C3VR is in order for the event, however, I agree with Joel - all sharks in the pond!!Cool I'm in - the Lukester should be well broken in by then....

I'll man the grill!!Thumbs Up
Believe me, I will make sure that C3VR's name is all over this event no matter what!
Adam, as you know , I am in the planning stages for the CAC event in 2010, we are set for the second weekend in June.  There is no shortage of things to do and places to go and they are all close by. After this one is behind me, I will jump in here and help in any way I can to make sure this is the best gathering ever for the C3VR. As things progress and we get our agenda down, I will send it to you along with a list of all other possibilities discussed. Mike will also advertise this event locally and nationally in his catalog and it will be no small mention, I think you will be impressed.
I would vote to open it to all C3's , talk about a membership drive......

I will be in touch and again when it is time, you will have my help and full support for this, unless Suzy won't let me ....lol

It was a blast seeing everyone at Funfest again and hopefully some of can get together before too long regionally again....

Scott...

837 miles away for me. If we could get an eastern caravan going - my folks are about 375 Miles into the drive just south of Pittsburgh. We could pitstop there and  carry on the following morning.

I know I'm a little late with input on this subject but this sounds like an awsome idea to me, and as far as an all C3 Event  HECK YA !!!  That would be the best opportunity for us to gain new members Clap  I'm going to do everything i can to make this gathering.

This will be a 750 mile trip for us, one way. That's over 12 hours, even with ME driving...
Might have to make an overnight stop in Memphis...
ARE WE THERE YET?????

Yeah I did the miles thing also..700 or so..well at 10 or so miles per gallon I will spend a small fortune on gas..I would have to do some real convincing talk to get this one to fly!  I burned a half a tank just busting arond town the other night..it likes cold air..there may be a chance though so don't count me out..

I agree with the idea of an all C3 event with a emphasis on C3VR. I was not able to make the 2009 or 2010 events due to distance and would love to make the 2011 gathering
