Thanks Clint, this should give us a look at where the membership wants to go.

I know this is not official, but everyone please only cast a vote if you really are thinking about going.

In the research Tab use the drop down and look at the real time membership map and see where our members are and where you might be willing to travel on the eastern side of the USA.
Thanks,
Evil Smileebo

I beleive that both Hershey and Gatlinburg (Pigeon Forge) have been former sites of gatherings, just FYI...

I have just cast my vote for Charleston, South Carolina. I think it would be a great spot for the annual get-together.

Super Barry, we cast the first vote for Charleston early this morning. We sat down and looked at the members map to see what everyones drive would be like. The mid states group it does not really matter straight lines there all a hike.
Williamburg is about mid point for all the East folks but wondered if it would be warm enough in May.
We had a very short stay in Charleston a few years back and have always wanted to return.
So lets see how this turns out. Either way will start my 012 Gathering fund next month.

I voted for Charleston... would fly in and rent a car like I did in 2007 in Carson City.   I could kill 2 birds with one stone... get to see all my C3VR buds and go to Savannah and Beaufort. Clap   I was stationed for 5 years in the 60's/70's at Marine Air Station Beaufort and my daughter was born at the Naval Hospital there.  Also, might get to see Clint's beautiful 64 convertible again that was "born" on the same day as my wife and I were married.  Hug  GO CHARLESTON!!!   Thumbs Up

Larry

Update:  Just talked to Margie and we decided to drive instead of fly.  Could make a better vacation that way... only not drive the Vette.  Too far in it.  So, lets keep those Charleston votes comin' in.  Big smile

Voted for Charleston, SC too. My wife just got back recently from a postal union convention in Savanna and says it is really beautiful down there and she wants to go back to that area for a vacation....therefore 2 birds with 1 stone...gathering and a vacation there  Exclamation

You not only made my decision on which to vote for much easier, but you also just nominated yourself to create the agenda!

And to be honest folks, much of the battle of creating one of these gatherings and making them as much fun as they have been, has been getting people to plan the agendas.  I simply do not have the time to do it myself, especially when the location is a place I am unfamiliar with (which is 99.99% of the country).  So, it looks like Charleston already has a comfy lead, but I would strongly urge folks to vote for Charleston since we have someone there who knows the area and is willing to plan it out for us.  THANKS CLINT!

Also, thanks for getting this thread started.  My schedule has been insane the past month and I have not been able to get the ball rolling on this by Labor Day like I said I would.

Let's get the voting done and close this down by 9/30/2011.

proposed dates for consideration :

May 16 - 20 2012

Avoids Memorial Day weekend

Avoids 1st 2 weeks of June crowds and schools are still in (less tourist traffic)

Avoids the summer intense heat (sunburn still possible yet optional)

Might get a better rate due to low occupancy

Just for the record we have spent the last 8 spring breaks in SC. I make sawmill (Red eye Beer) gravy and always have fresh ground grits in the pantry. Did that Surprise ya? Tongue

When I'm that close to the ocean I must have fresh fish....or even better do a sport charter and cook our own....Grilled Tuna anyone?
Nothin beats a "Low Country" boil and the trip to Savannah has to include "The Lady and Son's" been dare a few times. Then lets sit in the park watch for the floating feather and eat a box of chocolates...."Moma always said"
Girlscouts founder home......best candy shop down on the warf....
May date's sounds fine.....
Lets do this Thang....I'm a ways away but any project I can help with just count me in!

Those dates and reasons sound great to me.  Barry, keep away from that seafood, we don't need anyone in the hospital.  I spent 4 days in the hospital during and after our 2007 gathering in Carson City.  A real bummer and missed out on a lot of fun.

Unhappy

I had a bout with diverticulitis, which is an infection of the colon (a real pain in the butt).  Wink  It happened while we all were touring the auto museum in Reno and I had to go to the emergency room.  Have had a few small bouts since, but doing fine now.

Ha, Ha, Marshall! As long as there's an alternative I don't care. Only alergic when ingested, I can be around it with no effect (believe me, in Maryland you can't go ANYWHERE that does't have lots of shellfish). Just my cross to bear.

When/if a trip into Savanna is to be a part of the Gathering, I was tod that it is not a good idea to take a car into downtown Savanna, any truth to that?

Dan I have been down on the waterfront a few times, never an issue with traffic. There is a real nice visitor center with lots of parking, and you can catch a bus for a tour right there. Also there are reasonable parking lots right in the city I'm looking into getting us one of those for our group. Also Paula Deens "Lady and Sons" will take a rservation for groups, already contacted them.
