For the Buffalo Gathering we did a early arrival dinner on Wednesday. Some people like to arrive early and get a fresh start in the morning. Especially the folks that will be traveling for long distances. Then we scheduled events for Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Sunday was the farewell breakfast.
First nail down a good hotel like Dave C. did. Someplace with a good secure parking lot and clean rooms.
Then pick some good local restaurants that the locals favor. (No chain restaurants like Applebee's, TGIF'S, etc.) Work with the restaurant owners on setting up menus and times. Be prepared to front lots of money for the deposit.
Then pick high points of the area to "showcase." i.e. tour of Mt. Rainer, Boeing, etc.
The trick is juggling the times between events and stopping to eat.
It is a very daunting task for those who don't coordinate events on a frequent basis. So start now and get things nailed down as soon as you can. This will allow for minor changes in the venue if needed.
So I thank all of you (early) who will be planning this event. I will be there!
Update: (((( Late August is bad for Michele. Early August on back to the spring would be good. She is an accountant at the VA and they start closing out things for the end of the fiscal year. Her boss is a **** ))))
