This thread is for feedback about your stay at the Days Inn during The Gathering. Please post up your thoughts good or bad. I have heard both and have spoke with John about each.

My reason for asking this is that John would like to have our group back for Funfest and for possible future events.

Just like in any business if there are things that need corrected he can't do them if folks don't speak up.

Last year I moved to the Days Inn after staying 13 years at Comfort Suites (next to Niemergs Family Restraunt. During the Funfest Event I paid $89.00 for Wed - Thu and for Fri - Sat $119.00. Although the Hotel was very nice and we never had a complaint, the price was too much for an Interstate Hotel. All I wanted was a clean place to stay for a few days.

I haven't spoke to John about Funfest rates but if this is something that as a group we wanted to do I would. If someone else would like to take care of this feel free to speak up as I am purely doing this to help out. Most likely I will be in Indianapolis at the 4wd & Off Road Jamboree in lieu of Funfest.

I have given John a link to this thread so he can read the feedback.

                                                                           thanks, Tux...Tuxblacray2011-05-23 16:05:55

I think it was a decent enough place, for the price. We stopped in Mt. Vernon the night before(Wed), and paid almost $100, for a room that wasn't as big or clean as the Day's Inn room. At least the DI room we had was right at the entrance of the building, on the first floor, and we could park the car right under the window....that was really nice. The less walking/toting bags the better for this fat guy! Parking lot was well lit, also.
The staff were all friendly and nice...a change from the norm for us.
Overall, I'd say the DI was a good deal for us. A big ol Texas "THANKY" for John and the staff.

I checked in to find I had no room for wed night, Pris took the time to get it all straight and put us in a suite for same price. It was a smoking room and of course smelled like one. We went to wall mart got a bottle of frebreeze and wal la. Room was huge.
The fact that they cooked every night was super, lots of homemade foods also. The cookies that Pris spent three days on and making her own colors for the vettes and all was a nice touch.
I would mix up the menu as hot dogs and hamburgs every night was well a lot of hot digs and hamburgs, even after Moonshine lol.
The staff was super, while the brake booster project went into the evening they brought out flood lites, rags and plastic sheets to lay on the ground. They were very concerned.
Wash buckets, wash area and again a box of towels.
Breakfast was always nice, I do not think you can beat that price with all that thrown in.

Tux Thank you for putting this all together, I'm sure it took a bit of your time!

For the money I can't really b***h.

But not trying to come off arrogant, I'm use to staying at Marriott Residents Inn's and similar places.

At the Day's Inn: Upon close inspection after a couple days of sneezing, there was wrinkled wall paper w/mold on the wall just above the HVAC unit.

The toilet took forever to fill, so had to listen to the toilet fill for 2hr. + at times.

There was a hole in the wall above the bed.

Not that is can be helped...the beds were to hard for us for a comfortable nights sleep.

The staircases are in need of vacuuming.

Other than those few items, the place was fine.
I liked the staff at the desk. There were very pleasant and polite. It was very nice that the hotel staff had a cookout going in the evenings. The parking lots and grounds were pretty clean and well lit. That made us feel comfortable leaving our vette out there. So the good points equaled the bad points.

Tux, I just wanted to say thank you for setting up the hotel arraignments. Good Job. Clap

The staff was great!  We certainly can't complain!  Variation to the burgers and dogs each night was needed, but, the side dishes were varied and they did not have to do any of that (other hotels do not).  It sounds as though those who were in the newer, main hotel had a lot nicer rooms.  There were only 2 outlets in our room that worked and more shelving/tables would have helped.  We had a toilet that wouldn't flush properly and it was not the cleanest room, however, it was better than the first room they tried to put us in.  They tried to give us a smoking room when we requested a non-smoking room, the problem was resolved (Mary's was glad of that).

I've stayed at this DI before. I stayed in the back building that time. I found that building pretty disgusting from the time I walked in.  The hallways smelled and looked dirty and old. My room in that building wasn't much better. I don't remember details about it, but I do recall that I REALLY did not want to stay in that building again.

So, when I checked in for this stay, they were going to put me in that building and I told her I didn't want to be back there and asking if could I stay in the front building.  There were no regular rooms available in the front building for all four nights, so Priscilla gave me a "suite" for the same price. (I think "suite" there means big room with a single-person Jacuzzi tub.).

The front building halls look ok, and smell strange but not bad.
The room seemed clean and did not smell.  However, the walls had stains on them that could have been mold or water stains.  The ceiling had multiple spots that were peeling.
The toilet ran every few minutes.
I'm pretty sure the timer on the bathroom heat-lamp didn't work, so if it wasn't for me turning it off when I was done, it would probably stay on all day.
I noticed that the smoke detector was missing, and when I told the person at the front desk the next morning, she  said it would be taken care of that day, and it was. (That was a pleasant surprise).
I tired to be "green" and follow their request on the hanger in my room which asked that if I hang my towels up (rather than put them on the floor), the cleaning staff would not take them so I could reuse them, however they were always taken each day. This point doesn't matter to me, but it should matter to John.
The waffle batter was way too runny each day and made for some pretty lame waffles.

On the plus side, that staff was really nice.
Having BBQ for us every night was a really nice gesture, and as mentioned, not likely to be found at other hotels.
I do agree that a variety of main dishes would have been nice, but I guess for "free," you can't be too picky about that.  But it did get old especially by the 3rd night.  The side dishes were really good and homemade.  Again, a really nice thing to do for us!  The lot seemed fine, sans the giant pot hole at the entrance. It was well lit (so my rental Mali was safe! ;)

Overall, my stay in the front building wasn't bad for $59/night. However, I would not stay there again if I wasn't with a group, though. Usually when I pick a hotel when I travel, I look for one that was built within the past 10 years. I have found that the inexpensive chains that are in old buildings show their age. If this was put to a vote if C3VR should stay there again or not as a group, I would vote "no."

I do, however, very much appreciate your efforts, Tux, planning this for us! It isn't your fault if I or others experienced issues.

Oh, and if you really are going to report these issues to John, my room was 211.

Frank & I were in room 208.  The room was relatively clean & was maintained during our stay.  Hpwever, I agree with some of the comments above - the hallway had an odor & wasn't real clean.  The breakfast was ok.  The staff was super friendly & helpful.  They provided many things like the carwash station & the bbq each night (which they didn't have to do).  Although it was free, I would rather have had a variety of dinner items, instead of burger & dogs each night (Frank & I ate elsewhere after the first night) & I loved the thoughfullness of Pris & her custom corvette cookies!  There was a fair amount of parking & the lot was well lit.  I think for the price I can't complain.  But, I know there were many folks that had issues with their rooms & that's a problem - all the rooms cost the same & should be clean & maintained at the same level.
Tux - thank you making the arrangements.

The room was on par with other "freeway" chains that I've stayed in across the country.  You could tell that it was an older place but it appeared to be maintained pretty well.  As mentioned above the staff was great (I wasn't expecting clean sheets and towels every day!).

Angel and I had a pleasant time with the motel, guess really our main complaint about it was the bed was a bit "firm"... but that does seem to be typical with most motels(least with the ones i've stayed in over the years)..so all in all, not too bad, staff there was super nice, and while we didn't attend their cookouts in the evening, i do think that was a bit beyond the call of duty for nearly any interstate motel :)  very nice added touch(though if dad were there, he'd be pushing them away from the grill and head'n over to the grocery store for some ribs to cook on there;) )
