I've stayed at this DI before. I stayed in the back building that time. I found that building pretty disgusting from the time I walked in. The hallways smelled and looked dirty and old. My room in that building wasn't much better. I don't remember details about it, but I do recall that I REALLY did not want to stay in that building again.
So, when I checked in for this stay, they were going to put me in that building and I told her I didn't want to be back there and asking if could I stay in the front building. There were no regular rooms available in the front building for all four nights, so Priscilla gave me a "suite" for the same price. (I think "suite" there means big room with a single-person Jacuzzi tub.).
The front building halls look ok, and smell strange but not bad.
The room seemed clean and did not smell. However, the walls had stains on them that could have been mold or water stains. The ceiling had multiple spots that were peeling.
The toilet ran every few minutes.
I'm pretty sure the timer on the bathroom heat-lamp didn't work, so if it wasn't for me turning it off when I was done, it would probably stay on all day.
I noticed that the smoke detector was missing, and when I told the person at the front desk the next morning, she said it would be taken care of that day, and it was. (That was a pleasant surprise).
I tired to be "green" and follow their request on the hanger in my room which asked that if I hang my towels up (rather than put them on the floor), the cleaning staff would not take them so I could reuse them, however they were always taken each day. This point doesn't matter to me, but it should matter to John.
The waffle batter was way too runny each day and made for some pretty lame waffles.
On the plus side, that staff was really nice.
Having BBQ for us every night was a really nice gesture, and as mentioned, not likely to be found at other hotels.
I do agree that a variety of main dishes would have been nice, but I guess for "free," you can't be too picky about that. But it did get old especially by the 3rd night. The side dishes were really good and homemade. Again, a really nice thing to do for us! The lot seemed fine, sans the giant pot hole at the entrance. It was well lit (so my rental Mali was safe! ;)
Overall, my stay in the front building wasn't bad for $59/night. However, I would not stay there again if I wasn't with a group, though. Usually when I pick a hotel when I travel, I look for one that was built within the past 10 years. I have found that the inexpensive chains that are in old buildings show their age. If this was put to a vote if C3VR should stay there again or not as a group, I would vote "no."
I do, however, very much appreciate your efforts, Tux, planning this for us! It isn't your fault if I or others experienced issues.
Oh, and if you really are going to report these issues to John, my room was 211.
