I don't know what to do.
I know I don't want to take any more days off from work than I have to.  So that means I either fly out (which would be a 10 hour commute door-to-door) or drive (about a 13 hour commute).
Flight would cost about $200 plus I'd have to rent a car for another $150.
Gas to drive out would be about $225.

What should I do?

Hey Adam,
Maybe this will work for you. Mary and I are planning to trailer our vette behind our extended cab truck on Wed. morning. We are about 8 1/2 hrs. from MAM and about 4 1/2 hrs. from you. If you drove here tues. evening you could stay with us tues. night and ride to Effingham on wed. We won't need the truck until we head home early Sunday morning so you could use it.
(  P.S. Our home is open to anybody else needing a stopover point)

Have Mike send someone to pick ya up in his corporate jet....and then talk him into letting you drive the Corvette Summer car all week.

I'd vote for driving...hook the Escort Passport up and go baby GO!
btw...that's MY plan anyway.

Dave,
Thanks for the offer, but you're too far north of my route, plus I'm trying to avoid taking a day off on Tuesday and Monday for travel.  I'm trying to complete the trip Wed-Sun.

Don't worry about a rental when you are there. Someone can pick you up and drop you off at the airport (me).
And there will be empty seats for the cruises.
If you don't have a Vette, you might as well fly.

An extra 3 hours to avoid the TSA screening is a no-brainer...I hate having to go through airport security now.

Updating the math for current gas prices and plane tix, this would cost $245 in gas or about $300 to fly.  I want to do all my traveling in one day.
By driving, if I leave at 6am I won't get there till after 7pm (well, 6pm locally). For a total commute of 13 hours (or more).
If I fly, can leave my house at a more reasonable time (maybe 9am) and have a total travel time of 9 hours, arriving Effingham around 5pm local time.
So, I can shave 4 hours off my total commute, leave and arrive at reasonable times, but I would have to shell out a bit more money and rent a car.
While I have driven 13 hours straight before, it isn't easy.
I'm still torn on what to do.

I agree with Dave, Adam. If you're not driving a C3 out, you might as well fly and relax on the way out and back. Especially if you don't have a travel buddy or convoy. 13 hour drive is boring by yourself, also flying has less risk of major delays (like accidents). Do what you have to, just BE THERE! And Rich, now you're going again??????????

Well, I booked a flight.  Cuts my commute in half, from 13 hours to around 6 hours door-to-door.
I'll still have about a 1-1/2 hour drive from the airport to Effingham.  They really need an airport in Effingham! I should be at the hotel around 6pm.  Hopefully there is some dinner plans for those that will be there Wednesday night.
