Larry,

I haven't looked yet because I was counting on Dave and Nadine.

Do you want to look at what is in Salina and pick one?

I have no preference.

BTW, Dick and Jill are planning to arrive in Salina Tuesday evening as well.

I just got the A/C recharged with no (knock on wood) more leaks. I have a friend in San Antonio so I might just blow right by Ft. Stockton. A long drive from Tuscon, but I've done more in one day.

Dave,
If you are coming up I-85, you will go right past my work place.  I can see I-85 from here.  Also, I live about 2 miles off of 85, so if you want to stop just for a cup of coffee, or need a free room for the night in Greenville, let me know.  Might even be able to convince Clint to join us for coffee if his schedule allows.  Serious about the free room for the night too!!!!!!!

No, I have never been to Moab. Saw Salt Lake City and southern Utah, but never been to Arches or Canyon Lands, so I am looking forward to the visit.

Let me know what Moab is like.

David,

I am definitely coming up on I85. I was planning to drive from Tallahassee to Atlanta and then to Charlotte, but dinner in Greenville and a free place to park my Vette it too good of an offer to refuse.

July 21st is my best guess for when I will be passing through.

Send me a PM with your phone number and I will call you when I get to Tallahassee.

Let Clint know too.

I did some research and found what I believe is the best deal for a motel in Salina.  I booked the Days Inn Salina I-70 for Tuesday nite June 25.  I haven't been to Salina in years, but the reviews I saw of all the motels there on I-70 that one was the best at the best price.  There's also an IHOP close by if you don't want their continental breakfast.  It is at:
407 West Diamond Dr. Salina, Ks 67401 (I-70 exit 252) and is right by the exit.  You can get a better rate if you reserve at least 7 days in advance.  Also, you can get a discount if you are an AARP member.  Check their rates and codes section.

Heck of a road trip...!!!  I plugged all of your stops into Google Maps and you're basically make half a lap of the lower 48!  Thumbs Up

Patty and I stopped in the Moab on the way back from Carson City in '07.  Wandered through The Arches NP which was very interesting but didn't have time to stop at Canyonlands.  Before that we spent a day hiking at Zion NP and and another day hiking at Bryce Canyon NP (if I had to pick one or the other I'd go for Bryce Canyon).  Hear tell there is a fantastic paved backroad route between Moab and Bryce Canyon.

The drive between St. George, UT and Lost Wages, NV on I-15 is pretty spectacular also.

HAVE FUN...!!!

Terry,

I thought about leaving a day early and stopping to see you and Patti, but I just have too many things going on here.

If you decide to have a gathering in MI or IN, let me know.

But we will definitely get together in 2014.

I want to do some things in Moab; hike, raft ride, sky dive, jeep ride. Never seen Arches or Canyonlands. I agree, Bryce is the best.

See you in Manitou Springs.

Dave, Just returned from Moab yesterday. Great little town on the banks of the Colorado River. Did Cayonland and Arches NP. Both are amazing, but if you only have time for one do Arches, parts of it are like being on another planet and the entrance is 2 minutes from downtown. It was 100+ both days we were there.

Jeff,
That's the kind of info I am looking for. I will definitely do Arches. Did you camp or motel?
I am planning to camp and I believe there is a KOA there. But I would prefer a NP if they have tent sites.

Dave,
We motel ed it. There are several campgrounds in Moab. Arches NP has a campground with 52 sites (tent & RV) up near the end of the road near the Devils Garden area. We drove through it and it's really nice with great views. Here's a park # for Arches 435-719-2299

Hey Dave, did you know that you can camp anywhere in a National Forest, but some of the roads into the forest are not suited for a Vette.

No Dave, I did not know that. I guess a National Forest is different than a National Park.
Can I car camp in a Wal-Mart parking lot?

I guess you can stay in a Walmart lot, but there aren't as many out there as they are back here.

Dave, we would love to see you buddy. I know you have relatives within 40 mi. of us, but all the options are still offered ( prvt. room and etc.). I know we're 30 mi. off the nearest hwy. so if that doesn't work for ya, maybe we could come your way and meet for lunch sometime. If time with your relatives is too short, don't worry about a thing, we'll catch up to you on the forum, you've done some of the best photo spreads I've ever seen. Hope we haven't seen the last. I'll shoot you our info via PM.... Man, it's been almost 45 yrs. since I've been through Moab, Utah, sure would like to see a pic of the buttes. Drive extra careful. Happy trails.

Jimmy,
I got your PM and replied.
I printed out a map from my sister's place to yours and it is less than an hour drive time.
I looked on the map at Rt 26 for a place to meet between Rt 99 and your place and it looked pretty barren.
If you know of a place, let me know.
I also want to get up to my nephew's place in Cool, CA.
I may have to stay an extra day or get there a day earlier.
I will call you when I arrive and we can work something out.
Dave

Looking forward to your stop in SO CAL.

I just thought I would post this link in case others are coming from that direction I stumbled on this place about 10 years ago and it is amazing then.  You may want to thing about taking a little northern route.  Should have posted it earlier.

I could have stopped there 3 years ago on my way home from Bend, Oregon.
Any car museums in SO CAL?

These are the main ones in SO CAL there are others mostly private collections.  Jay Leno's comes to mind at the top of my head.

One that I have been meaning to go see is the Petersen Auto museum  http://www.petersen.org/visit/interactive-map   Trip Advisers say it is a 2 hour museum.  Coming the way your are I would take the 405 off of the 5 as you come down the grapevine then take  the 1 east and and after that follow your GBS.  The address is 6060 Wilshire Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90036.

Then a little further south is the Marconi museum http://www.marconimuseum.org/

There is a small auto museum which is ok in San Diego Balboa Park.  Now the Park is a great Place.

Here is a picture of the main area http://www.sandiegan.com/san-diego-automotive-museum-balboa-park/

I will be having Mexican lunch with Dave this Sunday at Por Forvors in La Mesa.  Talked to him on the phone and it sounds like he is having a great time and has some great pictures to show for it.

Yup, had a great Mexican lunch with Gil in La Mesa. Quaint little town.
Wish I could have been there on a Thursday night when they have their weekly Cruise-in.

I'm back home now, sorting out the pictures so I can make a little slide show.

It was good to see everyone and now I can't wait for next year.

Of course, I will be at Vettes at the Beach and Corvettes at Carlisle, so the season isn't over yet.
