So today to my dismay my buddy from the local vette club took my car to the paint guy for him to have a look at putting on the motion stripes....As he looked at it he noticed a ton of flaws in the extisting paint and and fiberglass below. He said that he feels my car needs repainted and reblended from the middle of the doors back.....
estimated between 1500 and 2000 to make it right........ouch...

Oui-Vai......
It did not look bad to me other than the few bubble spots you had Confused

Does that price include the stripe you want? Has he worked on vettes before?
Also is your car a base coat / clear coat? Reds at times can be a bitch to blend like that.....

No it doesnt include the stripes. He will however blast, prime, paint and install the spolier I bought. Hes done other cars in our local club and he works for a very well know local shop. This is a classic example of a naive Rook back in 2004 getting a "deal" on a paint job from a friend.....he used chemical stripper and these bubbles are the result.
Im just going to have to suck it up and pull the trigger, but at the usual Rooks pace, so Im sure it wont be until later this summer....that gives me time to find the funds.

He agreed on the blending part too..thats why he wants to go mid doors back....

It just shows you that the secret to a good paint job is underneath! If you don't prep the car right, NO paint will last! As I said before, My car came with a "paint to sell"  job that looked good when I bought it but cracked to pieces in two years! In paint jobs on Vettes, there are no shortcuts you don't pay for later. Sorry to hear about this, Dan, but just think of it as a bump in the road, not a disaster. That helps you keep your sanity!

Ya...if that crap is left on the surface for too long, it will definitely seep into the glass. I can't imagine using a liquid stripper on glass. Lots of quality shops do it, but they know how to use it, and know not to let it just sit there. They also clean it REALLY well afterwards....
It sux, anyhow. I feels yer pain...I had them paint mine 8 times before I finally gave up...

Do yourself a favour, if you cannot get the whole car painted, don't. It looks better to need a paint job than to have a half painted car. Half painted cars get you to work.  Red fades.
