Well it's been over a year since I stripped the corvette for painting and getting ready to put her back together again? I have several emblems to re attach and like the gas tank cover ok it's easy I can screw the nuts on underneath. But the front and side corvette emblems no way of getting behind the emblem. I guess that's why it's a pointed end to slide through the body hole and I guess some king of glue to adhere it? So that's my question new paint job what glue do I use to attach the emblems and protect the paint although it's underneath the emblem and no one will see it anyway? Thanks again for any input? The 78 & 79 emblems (except the gas lid one) are held on by double sided tape. I prefer the 3M heavy duty trim tape. The pins are just for alignment. Hope that helps!

Yeppers..BlueBarry is kerrect! Two-sided tape for the emblems since way back when. Except the fuel door, and front emblem, that is. You'll need to have a nice, SHARP trim knife, or Exacto blade to trim the tape to fit the emblems. A little time consuming, but worth the effort in the end. Don't use any kind of glue....just the tape. If you need to remove them at any time, a little heat(heat gun or hair dryer) will loosen the tape enough to get them off without damaging the paint. Thumbs Up

I assume you have a 78 C3 from your handle..?The hood emblem can be secured useing the 3M double sided trim and moulding 'tape'..Stick it on the emblem and trim carefully with an X acto knife, then peel the tape backing and put the pins thru the holes in the hood..Press evenly and firmly..
Remember to clean the surface of emblem and painted area gently prior to putting the emblem in placeWarm the body and tape after positioning with a hair dryer and press again.

My own '78 is the Silver Anniversary model and replacement emblems run over 100.00..SO, mine are also secured  by small pressure fitting 'KEPS' type nuts from the inside..You can easily reach these when the hood is open..Harder but not impossible from beneath the car..

Side emblems are secured with the 3M tape also useing the pins for alignment.
You CAN get to them to put the retainer nuts on also IF you want..The pins on the flag side emblems are larger diameter than the hood emblem.

The real 'bear' is the rear CORVETTE emblem on the bumper cover..
CAN be removed with bumper cover in place..and it is secured by the factory from the inside with a metal strip and retainer nuts also..

IF you removed this rear emblem after taking the bumper cover off for separate painting, make sure you reinstall it BEFORE reattaching the rear bumper cover..Have fun..and remember..this is supposed to be fun..:)Jim

The '78 emblems on my project '78 all use speed nuts. Difficult to get at but they are made for speed nuts. The only exception may be the front 25th Anniversary emblems which on mine is both speed nuts and some assembly glue/epoxy. This my second C3, my '69 had different emblems. This has been my experience with my '78. Good luck, have fun!

As a note on re-affixing the emblems:
3M makes a double sided product that is specifically for this application.
Base product # is: 4229P.
One can buy it in various widths on smaller rolls.2" about the widest on a roll.

One can also get it in 4"x4" pads or 4"x8" pads.
The 4x4" pads can be bought one at a time..check EBay..They will be perfect for application of the larger hood emblems like the Silver Anniversary type..
Cut small holes for the emblem pins..

Warm the emblem, use clean hands, warm the pad ..

Remove one side of the backing cover which is red.
Apply the sticky side to the emblem and press firmly..Don't stretch it or elongate it..
Then use a SHARP  X Acto knife to trim the 3M adhesive pad to the edges of the emblem.
Take your time and do it right & cleanly.
THIS TRIMMING IS DONE BEFORE removing the backing on the side to be pressed onto the car!
Carefully remove the red backing..

Then install the emblem square on with pins thru the holes and press firmly and gently into place.

Then install the keeper nuts on the inside pressing them firmly up to the body interior surface.
You CAN get to the hood emblem pins on the inside with the hood raised...Have fun, Jim
