I have the door panels off and need to fix the weather stripping around the doors.  I am also re-painting the car.?????? So the black adhesive needs to be removed they can re-paint the car.

I will be asking 3M lbut just wondering if someone has had good luck removing the adhesive?

It had been installed several times without the old stuff being removed properly so it could be a task.

Any info would be appreciated.

Dr. Joel always has the answer! All kidding aside, every task is made easier if you use the proper tools. That's the great thing about this site! Always someone to lend a helping hand (without judgement)!

I use a plastic scraper to get the heavier stuff off.  Some of the old glue wasn't coming off very well so it was just quicker to use the scraper.

The 3M Adhesive remover is good stuff, but you need to use a sponge, or rag to apply it, and keep the glue moist for a while. Once the remover has had time to kinda soak into the glue, it will wipe off fairly easily, in most cases. Plastic scrapers work well too, for the more stubborn stuff. Just be careful using the adhesive remover, as it is also remove wax from paint, and it will also remove spray paints. It's best to use the rag/sponge method, to avoid wayward liquid from getting onto stuff you don't want it to.

Thanks for all the info, I figured 3M had to have some type of remover.Just no time to research it. I will be careful with it but need to get the old material off so it can be painted. what I cannot remove I guess the body shop will have to maybe sand off, it needs prepped for painting anyway. Thanks again, Mark
