Its got to be an art to put the 3M adhesive on the molding and then the door and then putting them together and then getting them to stay in place until the adhesive dries????but that question is for another day. My question is the black molding end after the two holes is wedged ahaped. Could someone send a photo on how this to lool. I get the shape and how it will wedge in between the door and the side body of the car but when you put the two screws in the end of the rubber with the wedge and 1 screw hole seems like it is out of alignment. like it should be turn more to fit properly. Or am I missing something . I bought it at Carlisle and its not to be the cheap stuff so I feel I just need to know the trick to make it work. I have enclosed photos for you to see what I am looking for? Thanks BB78

 This is the weatherstripping, correct?
The "trick" is to spray/spread the adhesive on the door, ans some on the weatherstrip, also. Then, let it all sit for a few minutes before sticking it together. The adhesive needs to breathe a little first, and get tacky. If you attempt to install the weatherstrip with wet adhesive, you'll have the troubles you're having....it won't stay put.
Can't say about how the end piece fits....perhaps someone else with a '78-up car will help out.

I used painters tape to hold my weatherstrip in place. Worked fine. Had to stretch the weatherstrip some to reach screw holes and that made it pull away from correct position...tape solved the problem.

Like Dan, I used painters tape to hold mine in place.  I also  test fitted the weatherstrip using painters tape to hold it in position all the way around.   I put reference marks at specific places on the door and on the weatherstrip so I knew what point along  the length of weatherstrip should be on the door.  This was learned from experience when on my first attempt I ended up with not enough weatherstrip to stretch to finish the job.  I also found with the weatherstrip cement that less is more and to spread it, not just put a big bead on the weatherstrip or door and try to flatten out the beads after the two surfaces mated.

Like Joel said, spread the cement on both surfaces, let it dry for several minutes until it is tacky then start putting it on.

I've seen a black weatherstrip adhesive made by 3M at the auto parts store, that might not show up like the yellow stuff does.

Thanks for the info Yes I have used some tape but seem to pull away from the body, I believe I need to stretch the rubber out a little so ther is less pull/pressure on it. Also I need to let the the 3M get more tacky,probably rushing it. The second part of the question is from the photo's, the end beyond the 2 screw holes with the wedge shape, could someone shoot a photo of how that is to be positioned???? I get the wedge shape to fit under the body frame and to seal up the opening but it seems to be impossible to turn so it can accomplish this? and I only see 1 hole on top for a screw but from the angle its left at the end of the rubber it seem s to be turned the wrong way to turn it around and use the existing hole??? so some confusion there??? The assembly book shows two screws but my rubber only has 1 hole and the door body only has 1 hole on top to put a screw in to hole it in place but like I said the rubber is molded the wrong way for it to turn and go under the door? yes yes I have the right molding on the right door!!!!   Dang...that eliminates my next question....
To be honest, I'm not 100% sure WHERE this particular piece ends up on the door to begin with. Can you get a pic of the weatherstrip kinda sorta mounted in the location you're having an issue with? My car is covered up, so it's next to impossible to get a door open, plus, I'm not really sure the '78 doors would use the same weather stripping.....
