do the doors have to come off to put in new hinge pins and eyelets and also the door spring?

The pins have no bend in bottom so will slide right up. but the top one would have to be cut to extend all the way up to be pulled out, so if thats the case how would you get the new pin back in the top hinge if it needs to be cut out to get out the top???? also want to replace the hinge springs so the doors stay open... don't really want to remove the doors hinges bolts nuts probably rusted and break from the swamps of Florida) so if I don't have to get into that to get new pins in to stop the doors from sagging it would be great. any sugestions or posts o the toppic is greatly appreciated. Here is a link to the same question from a few years ago. I go through on how you get the pins out. Find an extra set of hands to help hold the door so you don't bang it up.Wink

I did it by removing the hing bolts.  But the link is a much better way of doing business.  I used a floor jack and a block of wood to protect the bottom of the door.  This make it easy on the second guy or your wife or just about any teenager.

The jack supports the door your assistant just balances it so it does not fall.  beside eveyone has a floor jack if not they own a C3 they need to purchase one.  I did both doors took care of my sag buy the way the door pins and bushing are the same for most cars if not all of them.  Local Autoparts place are cheap.

I bought the pins from my napa store in town because I was in a hurry. Then a few weeks later I bought a set from a corvette vendor for the other side. Big difference in fit so I got a second set from the corvette vender for the other side. Napa's pins were the universal ones and had to be cut and there bushings werent as tight.

Thumbs UpOK after reading all the threads and online opinions I decided to tackle the door hinge pins????  I made a door frame holder out of wood and adapted it to be supported by the floor jack. It is not pretty but it worked.  I'm sure the pins were the original and I could not believe how hard they were to take out. There is no way you can hammer them up through the top. They would not budge. I had to first take a Dremel and cut the pin in half. now I thought the bottom would just tap out the bottom of the hinge!!! like I said I thought??? but they were still tight but eventually got them hammered out the bottom. and now for the top, the bump outs on the pin just below the pin round top were really in there they were not going to move at all. I had to Dremel the top round head off the bolt and then drill a small hole down the pin to then punch the bolt out the bottom....took much longer then I suspected.  The door was on my makeshift stand and away from the hinge otherwise I never would have been able to get the pins banged out of there.  Putting the new bolts and bushings back in was fast and then slid the door back over the hinge and just tightened 4 bolts  lightly to line up the door and aligned it up and put the rest of the door bolts in and it really did a nice job of taking the sag out.  I did the passenger side first and now will tackle the drivers side.  One question on the spring I need to replace the spring on the drivers side, it is still i there but not much resistance.  Is there a secret to getting the old spring out how hard is it(never tried to put them in or out) and put the new spring back in. I here its easyhardddd. Any info will be appreciated.  Without the Dremel I never would have got the old pins out! but you all knew that already!!! BB78
