Ok what came first the chicken or the egg

Need some info on getting the old spring out and the new spring in the door hinge.

I have the door off the hinges, in the middle of replacing the hinge pin and bushings that is going ok but want to replace the hinge spring while I am there. I have the crooked screw driver but not sure how to attack it...top or bottom and a picture is worth a thousand words and do not want the springto flyCry out and doing any damage to me or the door???

Is there someone who has done this or has a thread to see how to do it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks BB78

Unfortunately that page was not found. Any ideas on how to find it? I would like to replace my door springs too.

Thanks!

Thanks, both of those are a huge help. Appears to be very straight forward change.

I have had the tool and springs for some time now, will work on it this weekend.

Thanks again!!!

Hey, I figured it out....

You have insert the tool and use a wrench to torque the spring the opposite way it installs and it pops right out.

Three tips:

Place masking tape on the font side at the edge of the door due to the close proximity of the spring while the door is open while removing and installing the new spring to prevent a potential scratch from happening.

The second is to place masking tape on the inside painted part of the door to prevent the tool from scratching.

Lastly: Don't over torque the new spring while installing it, be gentile. But if you do over torque it and it loses its spring place in a vice and torque the opposite way. Afraid to say I did this but it still worked out great after I torqued it back.

The second door was a breeze to do.

If you found replacing these as daunting as I did, you should feel better now as these tips will make it a breeze...Thumbs Up

Just finished the planned fixes for the year. Time to drive and enjoy.

Wife wanted to drive. Okay. She throws the door and no problem...until we get to the restaurant and have dinner. I have friends who want to see the beautiful freshly painted c3. I look at the drivers door and you guessed it, nice silver dollar side spot with a couple of cracks and lifted paint. When she opened the door she opened it to the max and the door hit the broken hinge spring. Arghhhhhhhh
