Pulled the interior out a while back and just now getting back to cleaning it up and installing new carpet.

After I vacuumed the floor; I used a degreaser all over the passenger seat area.  Now, there's a "crust" of hard material (textured) which is right over the fiberglass; is coming off.

Before I sprayed the degreaser; little chunks of it was coming off; but now, I can use my 2" putty knife and just scrape the thing off easily.  I'm thinking of removing all of that layer (without forcing it).

Question: should I replace this textured layer with something?  Looks like it was originally sprayed; but I don't know what it is.  Any idea?

I also found a weak spot in a curve, so I'll take advantage and put a little fiberglass back on top of it to reinforce that corner.

That's a sealant that is sprayed on...it's very similar to undercoating. I would highly recommend replacing it(if you're gonna scrape it all off) with some kind of undercoating material. It helps with heat, noise, and leaks, as well as protecting the bare 'glass.
You can buy cans of spray on undercoating at auto parts houses.

Mid America has a floor covering to put down it is a laser cut kit for sure use it. Also buy the "Scrap piece" kit it's cheap and has pieces so you can cover every hot spot. Also recomend purchasing their carpet with heat barrior molded in.

Good stuff!  I picked up a can of undercoating that says something like good for heat/sound for under car and floor pan.  Just need to finish scraping all that stuff; about 25% done; one hour per night of scraping is about all I can do (only doing it once...).

I already bough the insulation (heat/sound barrier) and the carpet with extra molded padding on it.  The scrap pieces would be a good idea.  I'll look into that.

Now that I'm almost done removing the factory "undercoating" (heat gun is by far the way to go...); I have follow-up questions;

1) there's still a little bit of sticky material; what to use to completely remove it before spraying new undercoating?  I'm thinking 3M remover (the one I used to remove the glue when I replaced all the seals). Would the 3M remover (chemical residue) prevent the undercoating from sticking properly?

2) Driver side; flat floor pan (where your feet are); left side; the bond between the pan (mine is fiberglass) and the body is cracked so if I push on it; I can see the ground!  What's the bonding material I should use to fix this?

I would take a guess at this.....but I would really advise you to find a body shop supply parts store and ask them..they have access to a ton of info on what to use and when..they may even suggest a body person who knows these cars to look at it..you may need more than you think..I don't mess around with my feet falling thru the floor..
