Well I guess there is good news, I decided to connect the vacuum for the headlights and wiper door last night. Started up the car and I have enough vacuum to raise both headlights up and also operate the wiper door. Bad news is that the headlights wont go back down. Didnt have time to do any real testing as to why,  so I guess thats for this week. Its always one step forward and two steps back! Other good news is that the wiper does function with the override switch. I dont have everything connected on that circuit yet but it at least moves!

Rod, are you following the van diagram for the car? Sounds like something with the override switch under the dash might be switched up.

Try reversing the hose at the light switch.

I'm having one of those I HATE CORVETTE moments! Someone posted a headlight 101 which I followed and found the 2 relays under the nose of the car to be bad. So I ordered 3 of them because I figured the one for the wipers would be bad as well. Well they arrived this morning and the first thing I did was test them. They are good ones. Only 54 bucks each! Now I put them in and connect the hoses and start the car. They still dont work. Now Im Pissed. I do some additional trouble shooting and find my new headlight switch looks to be a problem as well. I hate removing the dash panel and to have to do it again just doesnt put me in the right frame of mind. So the car can sit until I get a new switch. I think this time I'm going to get one from NAPA instead of a corvette supplier. It seems these specialty places are getting more cheaper junk lately. Hope I can return this switch for credit! I'm going to start a new thread to see if anyone has a vacuum diagram that includes the wiper door along with the headlight doors. I hate to even think about that door. That will also be a new thread on the wipers and door. Its looking like this car aint going to make it to Carlisle at this point. Oh well, guess there will be other years!

Rod,

Once in a while my headlights won't go down either.
What has worked for me in the past is;
- Push in headlight switch (lights stay up).
- Shut off engine (lights stay up).
- Restart engine (lights stay up).
- Pull out/Push in headlight switch (lights go down).
I know the vac. system on my '79 is a bit simpler than yours' with the wiper door, but it's worth a try.

Well, I call NAPA first thing this morning so they can hae one later today. Well they can only get a standard switch and not one for a vette with the vacuum ports. So now I have to call back the the vette supplier. So I make the call and of course they have another one. I ask If they can check to make sure the vacuum ports will work and I am told they dont have any way to test the vacuum. Well since Im in a hurry I tell them to send it out. Of course I have to pay for it up front. Dont have much of a choice. The only thing that bothers me is that I wont know the next one is good until I get it. If its bad I have to put it in because I get the top put on this Thursday so its got to be back together. Wish I would have an old switch! I'll keep you informed.

The headlights now work. The new switch arrived and once it was put in and the vacuum hoses hooked up the lights work fine. Thanks to all those that sent vacuum diagrams and diagnostic trouble shooting information. Now on to the next step which is the wiper door.
Thanks Again
