I was just wondering about the Pros and Cons of removing the hood insulation.  Any thoughts guys?

IT keeps oil and crap from seeping into the bottom of the hood, which eventually causes the paint to bubble on the top of the hood.

The original intent is to help with noise and heat, but most of us don't give a diddly about noise, right?
Helping to keep engine heat off of the hood is a good thing, but...unless you're running a big block, headers, or a turbo, heat's not really an issue on a '76....and I doubt you have a big block, so....
Toss a coin...

If you remove the insulation, then you can have a custom painted mural on the inside, which is great at shows.

Gonna be a pain to keep that white hood clean in the center. But it will look good when it is cleaned up.

Purists will be quick to point out you don't have hood insulation and the NCRS guys will sharpen the pencil to mark a few points off.

What do you have in mind???

Well,  we all know how the cabin becomes like an oven sometimes.  I was thinking if the hood insulation was removed, maybe some of the heat from the engine would dissipate better...

I started to say that most of the bumper vettes do not have hood insulation. Then I thought better and am going to say that my 70 does not have the hood insulation. I do have an LT1/BB hood on mine though that is not stock to my car. But the stock small block hood did not have it either.

Anyway, my bumper vette does not have the underhood insulation. I like it without the insulation personally.

I have headers and do have the insulation just because at the time I was putting her back together I wanted it to protect that new paint. Now after driver her a couple of seasons I am thinking that for as much as I do drive her that I would rather have the insulation off and clean everything up good and get my air brush out and do the cool stingray mural I have in mind.....

Well, almost.
Some '69s did have a shorter version of the "blanket", that really only fit over the top of the radiator area, and not the full hood.
Other than those, I think there were no others until the '73 model, with the cowl induction hoods.
Sooo...your partially correct.

With the hood insulation you won't have to worry about damaging your hood with the reflection of the sun off the aircleaner when you have the hood up at a show on a hot, sunny day! (I hate when people throw a towel over it, makes for some crappy pics) I'm thinking of adding it to my '72 even though it didn't come with it.

My 71 has no blanket. I sprayed it with rubberized under coating. It really turned out nice.

The paint on my hood has become faded and I have attributed it to the fact that there is no hood insulation. It may not be the case; but I do intend to reinstall the insulation.
