I am ready for new paint . It has been 22 years ago since I painted the 1968. It was painted a 1989 BMW red. It will be Media Blasted, all paint removed, and all body parts will be fitted correctly. The paint code is 974 which is Rally Red. I have the vette in pretty much original shape except the 427 435 hp, with three deuces is long gone. The second owner sold it back in the early 70's because of the cost of gas. LOL For those who have Ralley red is this pretty much of a orange color red. Should I go back with the original color for car shows etc. or just paint it any color of red like I did in the past. Do I need to Jell coat after the Media Blasting or just use a good paint and primer. Not familiar with the Media Blasting. I know not to sand blast.
Evercoat makes a Polyester Primer/Sealer that is basically acts like a gelcoat but is also high build and sandable. PPG does as well. It is a two part like the Epoxy, but works wonders in bonding to the original glass. You have to make sure to seriously clean the entire car after soda blasting. Meaning that you have to make sure that none of the soda residue is left on the car. One missed spot and the primer/paint will start to peel due to the soda. Not a pretty sight. Most paint manufacturers void any warranty after soda blasting. I am not saying not to do it, just that you have to be extremely thorough on your clean up afterwards. Every nook and cranny. PPG, or Spieshecker, are probably the the best paints on the market.
