I was told by the current owner that the original owners got divorced and the car went to the wife. She apparently did not like the silver color and had it painted red. Just a color preference for her. I am unaware of any damage to the car. It has been covered in a heated garage the past six years and started every month or so, but has not been driven more than 100 miles since its been garaged. I will try to post some pictures that I recently took.

Wally did you get an inspection done by a Corvette Specialist? Thats a lot of money to invest and if you have not please do. Is this a dealer that has it now?
Up North we try not to start them as much during storage as it creates a lot of moisture from the cold to hot to cold again on engine and exhaust.

Ebo, The owner is a private party and it was her husband's car. If it was an automatic she would not be selling it. I have not had the opportunity to take it to a garage for an inspection yet, but that is something on my to do list.

I am mainly dealing with her son on the pricing. I don't know what he based his asking price on except for some internet research.

Hopefully you can work the price a bit with him, unless they are knocking the door down.
It sounds like a nice car I sure hope you can make the right deal. I'd love to see it.

Hi Wally,

In addition to what Joel and ebo have said, be sure you check for rust.
These cars are prone to rust in several areas:

Birdcage.  Check around the windshield.  Remove the kick panels inside at your feet.

Frame.  Check the body mounts.  Check the crossmember supporting the radiator.
Surface rust is OK, just make sure the frame is solid.

Rear Suspension.  Check half shafts and u joints.  Trailing arms and bushings are very expensive to replace.  With so few miles, that should not a problem.

It's always a good idea to take someone with you that has experience with C3s.

I agree with the others, the price is very high.

Good luck and welcome to C3VR.

Dean

Without seeing the car its difficult to give a meaningful opinion of price / value but I agree that the price of 27K is very high.   Repaint to something different than born with will make a difference in value if you decide to sell it.

I keep up with Corvette pricing/market values pretty well. A nicely equipped  '73, Big Block, 4speed, convertible would bring around $21-$23,000 in today's market. Small blocks just don't bring the same amount without some extra options, like the Z07 suspension, A/C, power brakes/windows, etc.
Not saying it's not a nice car, since I've never seen it...it may be a really sweet car....it's just priced way over "market" value, even if it had not been recolored. Don't know where the seller's son is going on the net to get a price like that, but he's being misled/misinformed, imho.
If it was me(and it ain't), and the car was in great condition(other than the color change), with documentation, I think I would offer $20,000, and see what happens....
Pics would certainly be nice! Big smile

It all depends on if you are strickly looking at complete authenticity or you just want a good car. If the car seems right to you then get it (if it checks out). Price does seem high, though IMHO!

Be careful with the chassis, birdcage, steering and suspension - a lot can overcome you with a great paint job and makes problems underneath tend to hide from you...Embarrassed
