Got the rubber piece on. They must have painted over the broken screw as its a little red nob.

Well thats test my ability as I refuse to use a drill. I can see BAD THINGS HAPPENING!

I will have that done by someone who has done that before!

Actually, John, chances are if you start drilling the screw, the drill bit will catch, and screw the broken part right on out the other side, where it would simply fall down into the bottom of the door. Just use a cordless drill with prolly a 1/8" bit.

The painter probably broke the screw while he was removing the mirrors to paint the car. He then just painted over it. It's not a hard job to remove the piece, but if your comfort level isn't there, it's best taking it to someone you can trust. How about Duncanville Tx...ask for a guy named Joel. I know HE can do it!

Now if I was just drilling a hole, I am all over that.

If I am drilling a hole WITHOUT screwing up the threads, well that's where the feathers come out.

[/QUOTE] You learn as you go at your own pace......is best. The beauty of this place (C3VR), is that you can ask for help and don't have any fears about it. No one knows everything (except maybe Joel), and he's always glad to help all of us out. The worst thing is to not know your limitations. You are very wise that you know what to ask, and do only what you feel you can handle. (And Joel, I know that you can't know everything....but most of us wish that we knew some of what you even might have forgotten!)

If you do drill the hole off center there are several ways to fix it.

Thanks for all the tips. I took it by the guy who painted the nose of the 73 so well and talked to him about it. He said just bring it by after 5 and he'll drill it out. But like he said sometimes it goes really well and sometimes its a bear.

He had at least 4 Vettes in there all down to the skin. That was cool.

I did get the gas pedal back on that was in the passenger side.
I bought a new spring and the pin went right in.
That was cool also!

I put a dab of rubber silcone on the screw threads and on the base ot the mirror. The silicone on the threads helps to keep them from backing out and the dab on the base helps to take the pressure / stress vibrations off of the screws.

Likewise it can be removed easily if needed.
