Lonnie:
I'm doing my grilles right now. The exact original paint color for your grilles can be obtained thru
www.oempaints.com The product is called Trim Coat and is part number 22045. It is very pricey
. Too pricey for me so I found a cheaper substitute called "Cast Blast" which is a cast iron color paint that is said to be very true to the original color. Here is a link
I went down to my local O'Reilly Auto parts and while they do sell it, they usually have to get it from their warehouse. Mine gets here this coming Tuesday. Also note that the little groove around the signal covers is supposed to be flat black (perhaps only on the top and the side nearest the egg crate section). Here is the description I get from a post on the NCRS Forum although it hasn't quite registered to me yet what that area is actually supposed to look like:
"The small thin flat section between the raised chrome edging around the front signal lenses appears black, but this thin area runs into the grille surface towards the bottom on both sides, and looks more to blend into the dark grey color of most of the grille. It blends (fades?) more, than having a clear breaking line, demarcating the color change. It's definitely very subtle."
Finally, one person said to get the gray color of the grille, he used something else. Here is a cut from his post:
"I used a Chromabase 2004 Charcoal Gray for the paintred grill area(s) and a flat/semi glaoss black for the groove that goes around the lense.
I sprayed a semi-flat clear on the gray paint. I took a NOS bumperette to the paint shop and had them take a picture of the paint.
Most all the repro/later NOS grills have to light of a gray on them."
Hope this helps Lonnie
Maybe we can compare "After" pictures once we are done.
Regards,
Roger
