  I need to replace my windshield soon. When driving into the sun, it's sometimes a 'white out' from all the pitting from the last 40 years. I assume it's the original glass but I can't find a date code. The only thing I can find is in the right side bottom corner......

                          SUNSHADE
                              SOLEX
           { PPG}       DUPLATE
                           LAMINATED
                        SAFETY FLOAT
                       ASI  M53  2577
                             DOT 18

  Is there somwhere else the date code may be or perhaps this is a replacement non-dated windshield?
  I have glass replacement insurance on it..$100 deductable. I don't know if they will spring for a dated windshield or not. Non-dated are $149.99 and dated are $429.99 plus shipping. BIG difference!

M53 = Corvette Windshield
DOT 15 = Dept of Trans. Rating
AS1 = American Standard rating for tempered windshield glass/clarity.
2577 = date code.....I'm not familiar with this particular dating code. LOF(Libbey/Owens/Ford) was the main supplier of glass for the Corvette, and your's appears to be from PPG....perhaps it has been replaced.
Maybe someone here with the '71 NCRS Judging Guide can check to see if the earlier cars used a different supplier for the glass, but I'm pretty sure LOF was the only one.

  Yeah, I was surprised not to see the LOF logo too. Wouldn't surprise me if it is a reproduction and not an original or replacement. The PO took the cheapest way out on everything including and not limited to POUNDS of bondo......nevermind, I ain't gonna get off into that rant, just taking it one step at a time. Maybe someday I'll get to the top of them steps and be like ROCKY! Yeah, well, we all gotta have our dreams, right? LOL

I'd go no date for now while you search for the right glass at a better price. I had the same issue and literally couldn't see out in front of me when the sun hit the glass on certain angles..dangerous

  Yep, it can get quite scary... sorta like last week when that semi came onto I-20 beside me and covered me with slush for about 2 seconds.... Do you know how long 2 seconds can be driving down the freeway blind?!!! Shocked

The thing aboot "Dated" glass is weird. It's not really "correct", for Judging purposes. The original dating/coding is actually laminated in between the sheets of glass. The repro, or aftermarket stuff is either sandblasted on the outside of the glass, or it's simply a decal! OOOOPS! You paid HOW MUCH for your dated glass decal?
I would just be going for a regular replacement glass, but....IF the insurance would cover the dated one......
