My Vette needs a new paint job and hopefully that will happen this winter, but I thought I would make it look as good as I could until then. So I didn't want to spring for a bunch of $$$$, so I went to Pep Boys and bought the Maguires Clay Bar kit for $20.00. I clay barred the car this morning and it went pretty fast and added the wax this afternoon. I can't believe the amount of stuff that I got off that car. It still needs a paint job but it looks a lot better than it did. So anyone wanting a nice little weekend project, this is a pretty good one to tackle. Not to expensive and you'll like the results.Smile

That clay bar deal is really the ticket.
I just did the 73 last Thursday and like you it was easier than I thought.
Then I used that magiures wax and that car hasnt looked that good in a while, if ever.

By the time I had washed the car, dried the car, clay bared the car, wiped off the clay bar, waxed and then wiped off the wax I had been over that car 6 times.

I like the clay bar, but you should only use it a couple of times.  I was watching the speed channel and there was this guy talkin' about how dirt can build up in the bar and cause scratches in the paint.  After 2 uses, it should be retired.Wink

I agree with Micki.  Get a new one after a while.  However, this was the third year in a row I did the clay bar, and it really didn't get much off this year.  I suppose after doing it a few times, you may be able to wait a year or so.

The Maguires kit I used comes with 2 clay bars and the spray cleaner that is used with the clay, and also with a micro fiber towel and a bottle of wax. I would not use this clay bar again, it's pretty nasty. I will use the other bar next time. I'm with you guy's...this may be a once a year thing, but I'm surprised at how well it worked.

I bought the Mother's clay bar kit but I have not gotten around to using it yet. My paint is about 15 or 16 years old and has some water spots and still has a shine. What I want to know is how long did it take you all to clay bar the car? Most clay bar instructions will tell you how many times you should expect to use the bar.

Aaron, It took me about a hour and a half.
I just did one section at a time.
Spayed it with this stuff, "final inspection" on the bar, then on the car, rubbed the bar over that section then wiped the section clean.
Then every so often I would work the bar into a new shape to get new bar to the outside.

Like I said it was way easier than I expected, and I cant believe the "glass like" finish it left after waxing.

Now something else I found out.
When I was polishing the exhaust tips I got some polish on the paint. What I found out is it took that black exhaust stain under the rear bumper right off and didnt hurt the paint at all.
That was cool cause washing it wouldnt remove that stuff.

Thanks John,

I figured if it was some what easy it would take a couple hours tops. Have you used it on the window glass? I understand it will remove water spots from glass as well as dirt and grime on glass.

I bought the kit from Zaino, it comes with two bars. The color is hot pink and any bits you pick up show right away and can be removed with a finger nail. I have done 3 and 1/8 vehicles with the same bar so far and it still looks good. I use a little car wash and water in a spray bar to keep it wet. I got real ballzie with my wifes Grand Cherokee as it needed a good deep cleaning when the bar was done the clear coat was dull. So I said well that should be clean now. I used the zaino system to bring it back......Wow it worked great, when her Jeep gets rained on and we have had a lot of that here this season it dries like a fresh wash job.

What ever you do do not drop the bar on the ground!Ouch And if you want to do the chrome I think I would bag and tag a bar just for that.

Now I know you'll question the 1/8 vehicle.....well I have a brother in law, nice guy but does not maintain his vehicles......at all. Last time he was here and everyone went shopping he left his Jeep Liberty in my driveway........I clay bar'd and zaino'd half the hood and the small front fender. It's a pretty dark blue metalic. It rained just before they got back......got beads.....just a little. Yeah they noticed.....no I won't he can buy his own.....Yes I like him....but not so much.....Evil Smile

Zaino has a glass polish that works well for water stains.
