I have several scratches in my glass tops, some fairly deep.
Is there a special polish for removing these scratches?
Can you use a power buffer or random orbital buffer?
Do you need to do the entire area or just the scratches?

you might try an automotive glass shop or automotive paint suppliers and see what they recommend, on light scratches i've used paint swirl remover with a 8" buffer,on deep ones be ready to spent some time

also check with eastwood co. on their website- they make a liquid buffing solution+buffer kit that is designed to take out scratches out of glass. its like a water-based slurry. ive even heard people using a toothpaste solution with a buffer wheel. never tried it, but i heard it works. keep in mind nothing may get out the deep scratches no matter what you do, but you certainly can improve the appearance of it.

Are your tops mirror finish?  I got scratches in my tops last time it was in a mechanic's garage also and was concerned that any "fixes" might be worse than the scratches?

Mechanics are like weathermen...nothing is ever their responsibility, or their fault!  (No offense to the mechanics on this site, just the ones I've had to deal with in the past!)

Are the panels real glass or Lexan (sp) like the c4's ?   I really do not know...

Novus makes 3 different polishes to remove scratches in plastic...
Picked up all 3 at the local airport (airchaft windshields are also lexan)
1500 grit sandpaper followed my lots of elbow grease using Novus No 1 followed by  more elbow grease using Novus  No 2...and  the glass top on my 95 looks brand spankin new....never saw the need to use Novus No 3...think that is really windex...

These are the stock glass tops that came with the car in 1982. Considering the age, they aren't bad. But the longer I have this car, the more fussy I am getting. The better I make it look, the more critical I am of the small stuff. Especially when I go to cruise-ins or car shows and see Vettes exactly like mine that look like they just came out of the show room. Just makes me want to polish her more and more.
I do have some fine abrasive powder that is used for polishing rocks. I wonder if that would work. There really isn't any way to test it in a hidden spot.
I'll stop at a local auto/glass shop and see what they recommend.

before you try your rock polish you might want to try it on a glass picture frame laying around the house somewhere

There are special polishes and procedures just for this purpose.  Many good glass shops can do it for you, or sell you the supplies.
