So my question is "can you use regular old fashioned modeling clay and some detail spray?" I know the detail clay has special stuff in it but just maybe regular clay might work some with detail spray?

Aaron, I believe Play-doo works best in this case LOL  No seriously, I don't believe you can use just regular clay.  I'm no expert but I wouldn't reccomend it.  I've used the Mequire's claybar, to me it's alotta work but worth it.  The trick is to make sure you use a lot of detail spray and I mean a lot, otherwise you can create streaks from the clay.  This is especially true on our black cars.

Thanks Mark. I have been thinking of getting some detail clay or just getting some pads for my polisher and buffing the paint the old school way. One trick to buffing I'll share is, use 1/4 masking tape to cover your edges and any corners or high spots of hoods, doors, & t-tops. This will keep you from burning the paint, note the edges tend to have less paint especialy old paint jobs.Aaron19762008-09-25 19:11:55

With high recomendations from Tux I invested in the Zaino system, clay bar and all. I have owned my C3 for 25 years and thought I knew every square inch of that body. Once I was done with the Zaino system I had an amazing finish.
Big first investment but in the long run its actually cheaper. I was using Meguires Gold and I'm here to say it's not even in Zaino class. I actually cursed Tux afterwords as I'll warn you once you use this syetem you will see even your non vette daily drivers deserve this system. I gave my Collinite's (made in my home town) and Meguires away.
Also I wanted to smack Tux the first time I washed my vette after using this system as the car wash ran off the surface faster than I could wash it with the wash mit!!!.....I said out loud "Tux I'm guna get you for this"
My car has never looked so good.

This actually started way back when we were talkin "bra's" I used one on my car years ago and it left scuff marks. I was unhappy and would not try it again. Tux said "Young Master ebo, you're usin the wrong wax"

Just one of the many words of advice from this group that grasshopper ebo has heeded.

Sometimes, I have to agree, others times it seems they should just go ahead and put that insurance claim in and redo the body LOL

Larry thanks for spending some more of my money!
After going on the Zaino site at lunch time I ordered their triplet wax kit for my daily drivers, plus the polish for the glass. There goes $95.00.
Winter salt/sand season will be here shortly and I need to protect my investments.
Guna make you and Tux buy the first drinks in Newport next AugustBig%20smile
