They can really wreck a car interior in a hurry.  When my dad brought home the '69 Convertible in July, he also brought home a family of mice with it.  They shredded some paperwork he left in the back, and built a very comfortable nest under the driver's seat.

Caught four of the little guys in two days.  If you use traps, check them daily!  I skipped one day, and the smell was pretty bad...

I'm shocked..SHOCKED I tell you, to see that NO-one mentioned the most effective varmit repellant to keep in the garage, or in the car.....it's all I use, and it works quite well. Also works as the perfect anti-theft device.....Thumbs Up

I made the mistake of using a glue trap in my '75. I caught the mouse but he got the last laugh. He squirmed around enough to flip the trap upside down on the carpet. I spent hours trying to get that glue out of the carpet.

I leave several small photos of my sister in the car and that seems to do the trick.

That is too cruel. Still pretty funny, thou.

Joel, Thanks for the suggestion. I'm sure your method is very effective but I think I'll stick with the dryer sheets.  Besides, I don't think those things grow around here.

I personally like this one:

Put your car on jackstands sitting in oil drain pans. Put about an inch of oil in the pans. Mice will not cross the oil. It's safe for pets. They won't drink the oil where they will drink anti-freeze. If you do not take the tires off be sure they are high enough off the floor that mice can't climb them. Same thing with the cover, leave nothing hanging down they could use to access the car.

OK I get it.  He had mice, then he had to get rid of the mice so he got a cat, then to get rid of the cat he got a dog.  Eventually, Isn't the elephant going to ruin his interior?

Yeah...looks like Meow Mix to me, too...mice use that stuff to train the kitties.....

That looks bad, and it is.....but I've seen worse. As was mentioned earlier...mice/rats/birds CAN go in thru the exhaust, and wind up on TOP of the pistons. I blew q snake skin out of a tailpipe once, too....

Actually I love my Electronic Mouse trap. It is like this one http://www.amazon.com/Victor-Electronic-Rat-Trap-M240/dp/B000LNX06C/ref=sr_1_7/187-9674318-8258162?ie=UTF8&qid=1386092862&sr=8-7&keywords=mouse+trap+electric

However I purchased mine from Home Depot.

You do need to check it often.  I caught 3 in one night and 2 the next day.  Cleaned out the family that had moved in for the raining season.

All you do is put a little peanut butter in it and you are off and running.

If you want to see how it works load it with a metal knife instead of a plastic one.  I'm smart enough to never have been shocked  by it but a friend of mine was interested in how it works and got a little careless.

So I can witness that it does seem to get your attention.
