Does anyone have experience with removing undercoating without damaging the underlying finish?

Just for future info on Corvette owners that this might happen. Does not help much now  for the guy back in 2003.
2010--My stupid painter though he needed to undercoat my Texas rust free 68. What an idiot. I had to use paint remover on the tire carrier to get it all off. I used thinner and goof off and lots of scraping and wire brush work. I put new shocks on(they were also pretty old) just because he had shot the undercoating all over the shocks and when I tried to clean them with thinner it took the paint off. Use thinner and goof off in some places of the frame and then plan to go back and repaint with  the basic chassis black. You will never get it all off.  I used a pressure washer first. Good Luck, I left the undercoating on the fiberglass below the seating. Just not on the frame and half shafts.

I used a razor blade, and a little solvent in some places. Took a while(a couple of weeks), but I did manage to save 99% of the surface finish. I only removed the u-coat that was NOT factory applied. The metal parts that did get shot at the dealer were in really nice condition under the u-coat, so I'm thankful for that...just a pita to remove it.
