I am having trouble removing water spots from the paint and glass.  The only thing I have found that works is using rubbing compund on the paint.

I have heard about these Clay Bars.  Never have tried or purchased.  Will a Clay Bar remove water spots?    Thanks......steve

I'm not sure about the clay bar and the paint.I don't have any spots on my cars.I do know that it is next to Impossable to remove water spots from glass.I've been there before.I had a 70 Z (red 4 speed)that had spots on the glass. That was a real pain, and in the end I had to just by new glass. The water spots are ETCHED into the galss.I tried everything.Eastwoods glass polishing kit, forget it.Don't waste your money.Don't waste your money on anything.I ended up getting some polishinhg chemical from a supply warehouse that sold strong stuff to factories and the like.It didn't work either.I know this is not what you want to hear. If you do get new glass Apply rain-x on EVERY glass, yes even the outside mirrors.I do it on all my cars.Whenever I buy a new car for my wife The rain-x goes on.You only have to do it about every 3 or 4 mos.depending on your conditions. That will prevent water spots from happening. zgator2007-03-30 20:17:35

I know water spots on glass can sometimes be impossible to get off.  I have never used lime away; however, I have used and still use a product called BioClean.  You can get it at glass shops and some trim shops, under $20.00 with a money back/satisfaction guarantee down here, they say.  It worked very well on some glass issues I had on a different car.

There are several products that are good for removing water spots on glass (Zaino, DP).  Many of them are effective by hand, but it really helps to invest in a random orbital buffer.  That being said, depending on what's caused the water spots and how long they've been negelcted, they can etch the glass and may be next to impossible to remove.  As far as the paint surface, a claybar may help to remove the water spots, but again I would suggest a random orbital buffer.  Clay is great for picking up imperfections in the paint (brake dust, rail dust, metal fragments, etc.) but often the "water spots" are etched into the paint surface.  A polish or swirl remover probably won't do much to hide them.  What you are actually doing with a good machine polish (or, the rubbing compound you are using by hand) is removing the affected surface of the clear coat (or paint itself, with the older single stages).  I obviously wouldn't recommend it every time you wash your car, but for damaged or neglected paint it really makes a difference.  Let me know if you have any more questions, I've got tons of links and info on this stuff  Smile   PSU 982007-03-31 09:25:38

I you wash your car get the mr.clean wash gun thing. The last stage of rinsing is what does not allow water spots. That and rain-x on a regular basis will work at keeping more spots from forming. This thread might be good for a sticky.

I haven't seen anyone mention diatomaceous earth yet. A buddy of mine owns a custom paint shop and handed me a small baggy of the white powder used in swimming pool filters after painting the wifes 78. He showed me how to clean up the windows. What I thought was permanent, came right off. It looked like new glass. I believe he sprinkled some on a damp rag and worked it in a small circular motion, I was stunned. I'll ask him in more detail and report back ASAP.

My buddies name is Ole Thygesen and came upon this method in his 20 yrs. in the business. It works very well. He says to just work small areas at a time and don't be impatient. It seems to me the big trick to this method is just to be able to find small amounts of diatomaceous earth. When I looked for it all I could find was in a large box.aceinthehole2007-03-31 15:12:43

I obviously don't have the spotting problem that some of youse guys do, but I used the clay bar, followed by a WINDEX cleaning, followed by RAIN-X . . . and the windshield looks like NEW!  Worked for me.  Thumbs%20Up
