Just looking for recommendations.. Bought my 78 pace car vette last year with 3k original miles. Original owner said the car has never seen water. Paint is in real good shape, applied Meguiars showtime before winter. It is kept under a car cover, garaged. Looking to wax, went to Zaino website. Figured on buying the Z5 along with the ZFX. What do you think??

I've never tried Zaino's, though I understand it's excellent. I also have used Meguiar's Gold Class and been happy with it. Just last week I tried Griot's Garage Best of Show Wax on my '78 Silver Anniversary...the best stuff I've ever used! I don't know how it compares to Zaino's, but it makes my car look like it has a beautiful clear coat finish that looks a foot deep.

Let us know how your car turns out with Zaino...always looking for a better product.

I emailed Zaino in regards to what to use. Obviously after 25 years there are some surface scratches along with I guess slight buffer marks(it is original paint). I have read some past threads with info on Zaino and all seem quite satisfied. I will look into Griots though..
I'll let you know what Zainos says....

After being a Zaino holdout for several years I gave in and am now a true convert We even did my neighbors John Deere(not as silly as it sounds the deck stays clean with no stuck grass clippings). According to Sal Zaino our JD weas the first he had heard of. As to which produts to use, it depends on your car, type of paint and condition. If you do not get an e-mail back from them give them a call they are in Howell, NJ. I have called several times and also met Sal at Raceway Park, he has to be one of the most helpful people I have run into. By the way I grew up in Bayonne and my '70 was purchased new from Collins Chevrolet. In case you are new to Bayonne or too young to have been around they used to be on about 12th and the Blvd.

I have lived in Bayonne all my life and I do remember Collins Chevrolet..I spoke with Sal and he filled me in what to use...I then took a ride with my daughter to Shore Motorsports in Howell and picked everything up. I then called lazaino.comand I ordered towels. They were great to talk to, very knowledgable and their towels are awesome. I highly recommend them.
Now I am just waiting for a nice day to do the job. I'll keep in touch, let everyone know how I made out...
Thanks |cheers|

Sounds like you are on your way, just make sure you follow all the steps wash car with Dawn, clay the car , etc. A little time comsuming the first time but after that it only takes a few minutes to do a coat on the whole car. Don't be upset if you do not see a big differance at first, that really starts to happen after the first 3 coats or so. Just out of curiosity about how old are you and what part of Bayonne?

A mere babe, 54(my wife says 17 mentally)grew up on West 31st, moved out in '78. Good luck with the car I was involved with a pace car in '78 that we got from Collins. If you are interested my club puts on 3 shows a year one all GM and 2 Vette only, good fun shows, over 200 entrents usually at both. Give our web site a visit www.boardwalkcorvettes.com
A freind of mine that lives on East 31st is at all 3 every year with his '79.

I have used Zaino for years on several cars all with great success. It shows it's merit best on dark colors. With only 3K miles on the ticker, that car needs to get out and live. Anyway, I would believe that a sheltered car would not have much scratches and therefore I would would start with #1, #2, #6, #2, #6 in that order. This can be completed in one weekend with not too much effort. If you need to correct scratches you can use #5 at any time without harm at a later date. I always end with #2 then #6 for best results. Good luck. Try the leather in a bottle it is great stuff also. |thumb| |saluteflag|

I agree, the car needs to get out more often.. When I bought it, the one thing I didn't take into consideration was having the time to drive it. Job, Kids, and various family functions basically every weekend come first. I am planning to possibly go to Carlisle, PA this August with it though. If possible maybe I'll ride to VETFOR4's show in AC. Thanks for the help with the process, now I have to find a good day to do it..By the way, nice pictures.... |thumb|
