Hey gang, yet another question, is anone here running a brass / copper 4 row rad AND twin electric fans?

If so, what fans are you using and is this combo keeping your C3 cool?

I wonder why Flex a lite says not to used elec fans on a 4 row rad?

I was looking at Flex a lite dual 12" fans, flow about 2500 CFM and runs only $250 from Summit.....

I am looking to keep my mostly stock 454 cool.... running 60/40 water / coolant with -40 additive and a Stewart Stage 1 pump with 180deg high flow t-stat through a only 4 year old 4 row rad.

I have the factory fan / shroud setup, but was looking for a little less drag on the engine spinning that big fan... plus  its already removed to facilitate the Cam change and really really dread re-installing it! LOL

jim, answered part in other forum. just got my 75 in aug. trying to "dress it up" some and installing a chrome water pump. my fan shroud was split and only thing holding it together was the outer ring. price for a new one plus gaskets was more than what i paid for the fans. got the spal fans as indicated as i felt from what i could gather they were the best and don't want to get stuck doing and paying twice.

there are another consideration as well which may not affect you. 75 calls for a 61 amp alt. w/ac---42amp w/o a/c. already put a 75amp chrome alt on (replaced a 55 amp that was on there). the fans take approx. 35-40 amps of power, which technically my car could handle as the a/c is disconnected but in the future i plan to reconnect it so i am replacing the 75 amp with a 100 amp alt.  as i wasn't planning on doing this i am paying twice and doing the work twice although now i have a back up alt.

i may have to replace my radiator as well which i just found out. PO had some idiot mechanic install a brand new radiator in june and for some unknown reason cut the neck for the bottom hose on an angle. radiator shop said they would have to see it and really can't say if it would be repairable or cost wise just to either replace it new or with a rebuilt. as i am doing a lot of chrome pieces i will probably put in an aluminiun radiator as it will be on the "shiny" side (wife's request so to match all the other shiny stuff). positives are it will run cooler being aluminiun and it is also a direct fit. i will most likely go with it from dewitts. saw others for a 100.00 dollars cheaper but the fit is the question. one person i know went with this setup and bought the complete setup off of ebay but the top of the radiator doesn't match up to the mounting brackets so he will have to have it modified. even if he does it himself it is still exra work.

i don't understand flex a lite saying not to use on the bb. i would check out dewitts and see what they say as they seem to be very knowledgable and they will answer any emails you leave them. i questioned them if i could get the radiator they give in the radiator-fan combo kit as i already have the fans. emailed back 10pm last nite.

as you say you do gain some from leaving the fan off plus the fact you won't need the shroud anymore which in some people's eyes (mine for one) makes the engine compartment look better. and as i am really not looking to make this the kind of car that gets an award for the perfect replacements and "undrivable", i am looking at it from a POV that i want it to look and preform the best i can make it and enjoy driving it.

hope all this helped.

Thanks for your info...

Buying one and making brackets myself isnt a issue, as I have access to a full sheet metal and machine shop, we can make some really neat-o stuff... and while the rad is already out, perfect time for a little fabrication

keep the info coming...
