I'm not sure what to call it.....but in the area below the windshield, where the fan intake and exhaust screens are.......this area in question; my passenger side blows air when the blower is on so I assume this is excess air exhaust, the driver side must be intake? I guess my question is should it blow air our when the blower fan is on? I would just as soon have any excess air blowing inside the car as it seems my AC outlets blow a little weak compared to a new vehicle. Any thoughts?

If I understand correctly, it sounds like your flaps inside the heater box might not be moving properly, or sealed properly.  There are seal kits, and vacuum line kits for cars with AC.  You might also have a vacuum actuator not functioning.

Good luck

Larry,
Thanks, I didn't know there were flaps inside. I can see the squirrel cage, after I got rid of the leaves, but I guess I need a vacuum diagram because there is a vacuum line in that area that disappears behind the passenger fender just in front of the door.
Terry.

In a 1972 Vette...I took a blower fan from a 1993 Cadi with a larger cage and built a round (same pattern as the fan) 3/4" spacer (good sub box board, painted flat black) between the fan and the housing, you need to make the spacer or the fan cage will hit inside...this made a great improvement for the air flow. Other Gm fans will work, s10 blazer, trucks, Suburbans etc...make sure that the cage grills are cupped the same way and the fan direction is the same.

AC Plus,

What do you mean by the spacer and box?  I have often wondered about installing a different blower.  My only complaint on my A/C is the volume.  A buddy has a Blazer totaled out and I was thinking of taking the blower out of his Blazer and sticking it in the vette!

Thanks, gurtz

Take your blower motor out and compare it to the Blazer one see if the mounting/housing is the same and that the cage fins are cupped in the same direction...and MAKE sure that the motors go in the same direction. the spacer I mentioned goes between the motor and the heater box, to keep the motor about 3/4" out so that the cage doesn't bottom out, get some good press board and a jig saw and cut the shape of the blower motor housing where the motor mounts to the heater box, and then a round inside circle for the cage to go through...MAKE sure that nothing rubs or is to close.

acplus is right about using other GM blowers for Sharks. Most people have adapted the later, C4 blowers to use in Sharks, with the spacer, for the same reason. Waaay more air volume, as the squirrel cage is wider, and the fins on them are angled to provide more air volume, at the same blower speeds. The only issue is the cage is about 3/4" wider than the cages on a Shark, therefore you need some way to space the whole assy out a little.
