OK!!!!!!

I am fed up with the fan shroud and lack of any space and near impossible to install... .......

not to mention the factory copper / brass rad got a little banged up while remving the shroud a few months back.

Even though I had the local rad shop check it and they say its fine, i just dont trust it and since its cooling a big block, I just dont want to take a chance being 100 miles away and one of those bent tubes breaks and a overheat happens....

so... I was looking at the dewitts rad / fan combos...

Who has them, what temp change if any was noticed and is it worth the price?

I don't have the electric fans, but I got a replacement radiator from them. It was expensive, but the quailty is second to none. It was also protected very well when shipped. I'd buy another one from them in a heartbeat.

i bought the fans and wound up buying a radiator too. that should be in by the end of the week. they have quick service and are great to deal with. i ordered the fans from mid america and they actually came from dewitts.

I just put in the Dewitts Alum Rad with dual Spal fan set up.  Much easier to get around than before.  Paid about $950.00 for the set up and was fairly easy to install/wire.

Bummed recently while in traffic down here and weather was only 73 degrees with high humidity though, yet mechanical thermostat I installed showed 200 degrees.  I did install a fail safe 195 degree thermostat and programmed the fan settings where Spal said to, so I am not convinced the thermostat is right, but will know more later this summer.

Last weekend, I drained the radiator, added Water Wetter and filled back with plain water and temp dropped about 10 degrees, left about a 10-20% antifreeze mix, so we will see.

However, to answer the other question, Dewitt and Spal are first class folks.  You should be fine in PA though.  LA is hotter than a *&^%%$#@!@~! with the humidity.

I switched to  a Dewitts 2 core aluminum radiator & a flex fan. Never goes above 185 with the air on in 90+ degree temp. I'm running a pretty high HP BB too.

Well, i bit the bullet, I ordered one this morning at 0800, by 0930 I had a shipiing notice from them with a tracking number!!!

So far, great service!

I am hoping with the Stewart Stage 1 Pump, Robertshaw Hi-flo 180 deg t-stat and this rad / fan setup  with a coolant additive.....

I should not have to worry again about overheating!

Great buy!  You should be happy with the setup.  I've been running it for about two years now without any problems.

on my 75 the specs call for a 42 amp alt w/o a/c. with a/c--61 amp. when i got my vette it had a 55 amp on it which i replaced with a 75 amp. as my a/c is not presently connected technically i have enought to run fans but as i want to reconnect a/c at some point , i installed a 100 amp alt. if memory serves me right (sometimes it does workRolling%20On%20The%20Floor%20Laughing), the fans specs say they draw 35 amps. hope this helps.

So, its safe to say I could get away with running a 63 amp alternator seeing as my car does not have A/C or any other heavy draw items?

Does running a higher amp alternator require changing any wires to a heavier guage?

Thanks, Jim

i would say you are pretty safe. as far as what i was told about  wiring, it would be okay to put in higher alt as the regulator will control it plus you are not going to be under the constant draw all the time.  as a matter of fact i decided for now to leave the 75 amp in until i get a/c working but will have the 100 amp for then.

If you order from them, make sure you go with the "Black Beauty" (I think that's what they called it) option.  They paint the radiator black and it looks more like a factory model.  They say the way they do it, it does not effect cooling at all.  I wish I had spent the extra $35.  But other than that, I'm very happy with my DeWitts.

i didn't get it with that option. as i am not going the route of making it totally original and i am adding a lot of chrome pieces to sort of dress it up the aluminium kind of fits in the picture. i feel like my brother does, who restored a 66 convertible (don't really want to sat the name here) mustang. he feels that he put in what he liked as he wants to drive the car and is not looking to see how much he can sell it for. it is a beauty. i am not going to make my vette a museum piece as i too want to drive and enjoy it and not just sitting around. that i'll do when if i ever have the good fortune of owning more than one corvette.

The problem I had with the electric fans & air is at idle the voltage would drop with a 100 amp so I had a 160 amp built ..no more voltage drop. Also since I installed the TKO 600 my rpms tend to be much lower than with the 4sp. Also rewired the complete car.
