I recently purchased a '79 Vette (my first) and I'm still learning what's what (thanks to this board).  Anyway, the heater/ac blower fan makes a terrrible grinding noise when it's running.  At first I thought my car was going to blow up, but it doesn't appear to big a big deal other than the irritating noise.  (You can drown it out with the radio).   Is there a quick fix for this or do I need to look at replacing parts?  I thought it might be some worn out bearings in the fan wheel.   Any ideas?  Also if this has to be replaced, what exactly has to be replaced and is it a difficult job?  Thanks

Get a bigger radio....

You prolly have some trash in the squirrel cage of the blower motor. Either that, or the bearings are dry, as you suspect. Either way, the motor will have to be removed. It's not the hardest job to do, but it can be a bit taxing. Everything is a tight fit down there, especially with A/C. You just remove the few small screws that hold the blower motor to the housing, unplug the two wires from it, and then start twisting/wiggling it around to get it out past all of the stuff in the way.

Exactly right!  New motors are not expensive, so you might as well replace it while you have it apart.

This might be another time to expect to fill the "cuss can".
