My heater core is leaking on my 1977 coupe.  I have ordered all the required parts to replace it, including the hoses and gaskets and the control valve, etc.  Anyone have experience with getting to it.  Any tricks that you have about the interior parts that have to be removed, will be greatly appreciated! My car has A/C also.

Here's a thread from when I did mine earlier in the year.  I had a rather strange problem with not being able to get the right size with the first two I purchased.  Hopefully you will not have that problem - this job is fun enough without weird stuff like that.  It's really not too bad of a project, just tedious due to all the stuff you have to take off in the interior.  Actually replacing the unit is the easiest part of the job, IMHO.  Good luck!

I just finished replacing my heater core on my 1982. It took longer than I thought it would. The main thing is to take your time and try to remember how the ducts came out. The book said to remove the lower dash, but I was not able to do that, I just removed the screws on the door pillar and was able to remove the duct. Good Luck and thke your time.

Sorry I'm sURE your done by now but I hAD REPALced my heater core for my 1978 automatic air condition car. I was removing the dash as it was a dash cover and I wanted to see what the real dash looked like and why someone ( the florida swamp alligator salesman) covered the dash to sale it???? Ok so I finally got enough nerve to remove it and replace the dash.  I was told to replace the heater core even if it was not leaking since i had the dash off.   So I did ,,,the heater core was a no brainer but teh dash and everything else ,,,well not difficult but time consuming or finding the time to attend to it.  Anyway hope your done but I was scared to try the heater core because of all the info I got and not from the C3 website but I checked everywhere for info before I decided to try it.

Anyway after being told several incorect things the heater core in my 78 air condition model has four screws to it. the top left from inside the car looking out towards the firewall and engine the top left screw/bolt goes through the firewalll and there is a bolt you can see that is attached to this bolt on the engine side of the firwall.  The other 3 screws or bolts just go int the firewall from the interior car side ...bno bolt on the outside of the firewall. Just unscrew from the firewalll and yo have the heater core loose.  Yes the gasket or glue or silicone made it stick to the firewall but after the 4 screws are loose and the silicone seal is loose and yo have removed the hoses from underneath the car it is just a upward tug and pull and slide the copper pipes from the bottom of the body and the heater core is loose.

Your porbably beyond this by now but if not send me a email and I will get yo pics and more info, but the core is just write down as yo take it apart and take pics as yo take it apart and re do the gaskets and silicone and it goes back in easy and reattach the bolts!

let me know if yo need more BB78

Thanks very much for the help on replacing the heater core.  The job is done on my 1977 coupe.  It was a lot of trouble in getting to it.  I think that everything is back together correctly.  I replaced the heater hoses and the control valve and the lower radiator hose, which was probably 35 years old.  It looked like it was about to blow.  I got a kit for the gaskets on the ducts.  The kit included some caulking type material for sealing the core to the box.  I think that everything is pretty much sealed up, probably better than from the factory.  Glad to have it done.
