I'm working on my heater AC system.  Started with the vacuum and controls before I let the AC guys fix the AC.  By the way I get to stay with R12 as I purchase a dozen cans the week before they stopped selling it.

My problem is the white vacuum switch that is up under the dash on the heater box.  The one that controls the vacuum to the Water Shut off Valve in the engine compartment is leaking vacuum like a sieve.

I have 12 inches of vacuum from the engine and after isolating everything but that switch and taking a reading on the hose going to the Hot water shut off valve get only 2 inches of vacuum.

Try as hard as I can I cannot seem to find anyone that has that switch. They must be calling it something else.  What would you call it?   I would like to purchase a new one if possible.  I know I can get a used one locally but I would rather have new.

That does not look exactly like mine but that sounds like the item.

If I understand this system a leak here seems to be a direct connect to the rest of the vacuum system in the car.

The crossfire system is really susceptible to vacuum leaks.  So I hope when I fix this it may also help with some other small issues.  Of course I have never found a complete drawing of all Vacuum systems and how they actually connect or do not connect together.

Each time I find a new information I try to redraw it so it is easier for me to understand.

Thanks for the lead if no one else comes up with the exact item this should work. Mine does not have the big black thing sticking up is what the difference seems to be.

The big black thingy is an aspirator..or a vent of sorts, to allow vacuum to move the valve from one end to the other.Unless you can find a good used one, this one is prolly yer best bet on finding one. A used one may well have the same issues your original one does....it's dried out, and not sealing....

On another note...that's a SWEET diagram, Gilbert!! Clap

Thanks for the information Joel.  You  stated what a lot of people say that good used ones are hard to find.  That is why I was looking for a new one.  I will go ahead and order this then.

That's great news - as far as a vacuum diagram, you may want to check at the same place. They're noted for their knoweledge, various diagrams and details on these cars. Although it doesn't look like you need much help with a diagram.

Good luck, let us know how you make out. Thumbs Up

Dennis found the switch at DrRebuild for $65  I purchased that one.

Robert found that the wiper door switch could be used for this purpose at DrRebuild.  I think that is good information for future reference and is just an example of the help that you can get from members.

Thanks again for coming through with help when needed.
