You may be able to come up from underneath to get to the hose connections. Even then, it's a bit tight. Take the splash pan/shield off, and it opens up a bit more room under there.
Being a 77, does yours have the VIR set-up, or the receiver/dryer? The VIR has all of the A/C components(Valves In Receiver...looks like some kind of space station...} built into one container, where the receiver/dryer is just a large, aluminuminum can, with no valves, as that system uses an orifice to control the flow of refrigerant thru the system. 77s could have either system.

it has a arumin can. I did take the splash guard off, I still can't get wrenches to up in the area to do a disconnect. Unless I modify wrenches. (cut them to fit).

I know whut ya mean...I had a small leak on one of my hoses on the '74, and couldn't get to the fittings either. I finally fixed it while I had the engine out for detailing.
Perhaps taking the blower motor off may help on yours?
You can sometimes get to one of them thru the side vent...

Bit the bullet, and cut a hole to get to the fittings with the hole cut, it came apart with no problems.   Then I find out I have the wrong hose assy. Now, I've had the hose in the box for about 6 weeks and never looked at it. I kinda Have had my hands full refurbishing the Kitchen. Willcox has been very nice and is sending me the new one, and a pickup tag fore the one I have. Yipppeee!!
Next question, Whats the best way to put the piece back that I cut out and modify it to be pulled when needed?

I figure on making a flange around the backside of hole, then resetting the peice I cut out, and Then attaching it with those screwclips. Then hitting it with some spray undercoating to make it look like it was made that way.
See?.... I HAVE BEEN THINKIN!!!! Lampsorry no pic's. Prolly couldn't post them anyway.Geek
I  do like duct tape, it works on everything.

I'm with you David. I drive mine and if I have to modify something hidden to make a job workable that's what I'll do. Good engineering always wins.

Finally!!! I got the proper Hose Assy Last night. UPS pulled in my driveway about 9 o'clock. Those people work late!
One more question on this issue. What is the Pressure of 134a conversion supposed to be on the system when Fully charged for my year? I'm borrowing a vaccum pump to pull it down, I just want to get it right the first time.
