I swear i just replaced this one, let me check the receipts...see, not too long ago, 14 yrs and 20,000 miles...hmmmm. How time flies.

Hey folks, How ya' all been? Haven't posted much, been on the homestead and goofing around alot. Still keeping tabs tho.

Anyway, I need a radiator. You've seen my car, it gets driven so and it's not original. I did have the original, recored radiator in it and never had a problem with cooling. Looking at the replacement parts it seems I can get a spectra CU717 for about $150 or go with a much more expensive part. Not sure if it's more because it's for originality or performance or reliability. I don't need originality nor performance but do need reliability.

Any input would be appreciated.

Dave

Hi Sara, Hope school is going well for you. Dave, What is your desire, copper/brass, or aluminum? What ever you choose, make sure it's made in the US of A. It'll fit! Hate to have you send it back to the R.O. C. If it doesn't. ⛴

I take it that your current radiator is beyond repair?

Don't know if Terry (my7t1) is still in the radiator business but you might reach out to him.  He helped me out with a radiator for my tractor.

Terry retired late last year. Don't know for sure if someone else took over the Hospital after that. Wink

Well, not certain but there's a local corvette boneyard that has reconditioned radiators for $135, 6 month warranty. The last time I had this radiator recored it cost me $100 and that was way back when...

Thanks for the replies. I probably won't get back to civilization and my vette for at least 2 weeks

I've just seen this thread.  Some years ago now I needed a new radiator for our '78.  After faffing about with a re-core that was a disaster, I was put in touch with Complete Radiators.

Super service, very prompt delivery to me here in France and, a very competitive price.  Best part was that the rad was a perfect match for the original, and I mean perfect.  So, it just "dropped in"!
It was so effective that I needed a new thermostat to get the car warm!   Still going strong and looking like new after 13 years!

Maybe worth a look?

It costs around $400.-450. to re-core a radiator for a C3 now-days, depending on whether you have 3 or 4 row core. All the cores I use at my shop are made by a company called Heatex in MI. If you have someone re-core it, it will be a far better radiator than the Chinese stuff being peddled by everyone these days. I have been doing radiators for 40 years, and in my opinion, unless there is something wrong with your end tanks, it is definitely the way to go. Also make sure they re-attach the ID. tags that are incorporated into the tank seams from the factory. Guys that don't know how to restore vintage GM radiators have a tendancy to toss those in the process.
