While the engine is out of my '75 coupe, I thought I'd remove the air conditioner/heater housing from the engine bay side.  I have never gotten much heat out of this so I want to see if there is blockage in the core.  The A/C was removed before I got the car, but the evaporator core is still in this housing.

My question is:  how much trouble will this be?  Is there something I need to be aware of before I get into it.  I don't want to create more problems if I can avoid it.

This forum has been a fantastic source of information!

It shouldn't be any trouble with the engine out. I know because I installed factory A/C with the engine in. So I guess you're missing the compressor, condenser, and hoses.

Once you get the A/C assembly out of the engine bay, you can cover the hole left in the engine compartment side of the firewall with an A/C delete plate.  They are available on the internet (a little pricey--around $160.00), but it makes the right side of the engine compartment look a lot better.  I did this on my75 Corvette several years ago.

I did this on my 74. Only problem I encountered was having to install heater fan speed coil into the new AC delete box I put on the firewall. there was no hole built into it for it so I had to make hole big enough to install it and the only place I could find for it is on the bottom. Once the delete box is installed on the firewall it makes this job tough, so make sure you figure out where you need to install it before you mount on firewall and drill hole prior to doing so.
P.S. You will have to remove the coil from the stock AC heater box before removing it.
