Does a 76 have a vacuum actuated valve that shuts the water off to the heater core?

I am burning up in this car as the heater is always on.

Or do I have to install the manual valves?

Thanks, Ken

It is mounted on the heater hose (the one that pushes hot fluid to the heater core) directly below where the A/C hoses enter the heater box.

However you must locate the vacuum hose that operates the valve. It should be a very small white tube/hose coming out of the firewall.

If it missing you may want to use a manuel shut off valve.

Hope this helps.

The only way to totally eliminate the corkpit heat is to install a manual shutoff valve on each heater hose. Even with the vacuum shutoff in good working order the heater core still gets hot water from the other side. The only way to stop this is to have valves on both hoses. Many of us have installed valves...it makes huge difference. NAPA has them at most stores.
