I've been looking through all the usual soures for a new water pump for my '69 small block (350/300) with AC, but can't decide who to go to.

Paragon has one that covers models 1961-70 and it doesn't look anything like what I have. Zip lists one, but does not specify if it will fit an AC car and the is no photo. Mid America looks like they are only selling an aftermarket brand. Its been a long time since I ordered anyting from Dr. R. Year one doesn't even show a water pump for a '69 model.

Anybody have any recommendations?

Thanks,
Jim

Try NAPA. You should have a local one that supplies repair shops. Also places like Pep Boys, Advance Auto and Auto Zone generally carry stuff with lifetime warranties.

Also check out Summit Racing and Jegs. Summit carries OE type replacement parts and both carry high performance water pumps like Edelbrock, Moroso and Milodon.

Wherever you look for it, make sure you specify Corvette...just because it might bolt to a small block, there are different length water pumps...long, short and sometimes Corvette specific.

You can get one at Pep-Girls, for sure. Just take yours with you to make sure the shaft size is the same. There is no difference in the wp for A/C cars/non- A/C cars.
There are differences in how long the pump is, from the block surface to the pulley flange, and different shaft sizes. There may also be a small difference in where the flange is on the shaft, depending on how far onto the shaft it is pressed. Just look carefully at both pumps, and make sure everything is in the same location. Differences in the cosmetic appearance won't hurt, unless you are going for an original look.

I bought a reman pump for my '74 years ago from Pep-Girls, and it worked fine. Then, I needed to have my original, "numbers" pump rebuilt for judging purposes. I went and bought another reman pump, and took all the guts out of it, and re-installed all of it into my original pump housing, thereby giving me a correct, date coded pump for my car. That was in '98, and that is the pump that is still on the '74 today. I took careful measurements of where the shaft flange was, so the pulleys would line up right, and that was about all there was to it.

unfortunately I had a lot of problems with a Weiand (Holley) pump ... real purty  Polished alum. from Advance.. two... and both leaked... one after 6 months and the other after 1 week... both from the same housing gasket.. Weiand couldn't figure the problem... I went to Stewart Pumps (Cast iron) and have not had a problem in over a year.. decided to have Stewart rebuild my original pump... thing that bothered me.. Weiand was not very helpful. Advance gave me new pumps but it got old putting them in... I can do it blindfolded now...

Good. I need to do mine as the car is running hot and so I plan to change the pump tomorrow night.  Wanna come down and help???  LOL.

I just went to Advance and got one (new, not rebuilt) for 50 bucks. After owning a bunch of furring sports cars, I must say there are two things I really appreciate about a Corvette:
1. You can get anything for them!
2. It doesn't cost 395 bucks for a stupid water pump or alternator (like my Saab Turbo).

I just went with the standard unit, I suspect mine is just flat old and corroded and not pumping very well. radiator is new, fluid is clean, new stat, new radiator seals, etc.  and she still runs at 220 on interstate at 65mph.

Good advice from all of you! Thanks,

I'm with Ray, I put in a Stewart High-Flow Water Pump.

It fit perfect & the extra flow is helping to keep the temps down.
