Looking for help re-assembling my cross shaft. I took it apart detailing my engine compartment while motor was out. Then I had a shop accident, broke my hip, and was laid up for a while. (I'm only 52 so no jokes please!
) Now I don't remember how it came apart and several diagrams I've found on line and in shop manuals aren't detailed enough, and are conflicting. the diagram below is from Corvette Central. The one in my shop manual is different.
On the stud to frame side this shows a plastic seat inserted first, then the stud ball, then a part that's not labeled, then the retaining spring.
Is the part not labeled another plastic seat?
Or is it a spacer of some sort?
On the stud to engine side this shows another seat, then the stud. Shop manual doesn't indicate a seat. But it does indicate a felt seal, (same as 531363 on the frame side).
Thing is, I only have two plastic seats!
So is there really a seat on the engine side?
Is there supposed to be a felt seal on the engine side as well as the frame side?
Also, my engine stud didn't have a rubber washer on it when i took it out but it was quite old. But I found a part listed in the catalog called "pivot stud rubber seal" so ordered one. It fits perfectly in a groove machined right next to the ball on the stud.
The stud picture below looks like there is a collar just under the ball. It's not labeled but wonder if this is a rubber seal?
