I have never changed oil in a muncie before. How hard is it?  Trying to do some researc, some have drain plugs, some do not. I have owned the car for a couple of years, do  not know if or when the oil was last changed. Before I had the engine out for overhaul, it shifted fine and no unusual noises.  Use GL-4 rated 80/90w oil?   Thanks, Bob

You are correct that not all Muncie/BW have drain plugs...some do, some don't. However, if yours does NOT have a drain plug, you can still drain the gear lube, by removing the very bottom bolt in the tailhousing, where it bolts up to the main case of the trans. It'll work best if the trans and fluid are hot.

Regular 75/90 weight gear lube(GL4) is fine.

I recently rebuilt my muncie and had to replace the case.  Neither the 704 or 325 case have an opening in the casting to this bottom tailhousing bolt.  You might be able to drain the tailhousing, but don't see how you could get much fluid out of the maincase.  Best method without a drain plug would be to use a suction gun I think.  Unfortunately, that might not get rid of any gunk or debris in the bottom, but it might be rebuild time in that situation.
 
Maybe the later maincase castings have this opening you refer to.  I rebuilt one of those a long time ago, but sold that car.
