I think you should go for it.... There are alot of folks looking for work. You could spread some of your funds around to help them out.

Besides you ain't lived until you spend some quality time upside down under the dash hangin the pedal assembly...

But then again...... sendin some dough Joels way for a better, stronger, quality guarenteed job makes sense.....

Durn it I sure do hate gettin older an more rational....

I probably should have shipped my tranny to you but, my neighborhood Larry's Transmission shop was much closer and he is going to do all the work. It will cost me more, but his work is good. I don't really have the time or experience to pull the automatic although, I've done plenty of manual's in the past.

My question is, the noise I've been hearing, kind of like a throughout bearing noise, Larry said I might have a cracked flywheel. I've never heard of a flywheel cracking, he called it a flex wheel. I don't see any for sale at the corvette parts web sites. Do you have any ideas on the cost of a flywheel, if I should have to buy on?

Thanks, Terry (terntes) Garner

Flywheels DO crack...all the time. They tend to crack around the bolts that hold it to the crankshaft.
Depends on who yer talkin to as to what it is called...some say flexplatel, or flywheel. The term "flex-plate" is normally used to describe a plate with no starter teeth on it, as a lot of older Chryslers used, as well as some Yeeps. No matter what ya call it, they are available just about anywhere. Figure around $30-$50 for one from a parts place. If yours is cracked, there's no question....you have to replace it. Now is the time.

Thanks for the tip! I can't imagine anything for a corvette that cheap, I was guessing hundreds. At any rate I don't have a quote back yet so, we'll see. I am definitely having it fixed, as that is the reason I parked it a month ago and brought my PU out of mothballs. I should have something back early next week. I miss my 'Vette, better gas mileage, better performance and much better style.

The quote is $1200 for the rebuild and $45 for the new flexplate. I'm still waiting for it to get back from the shop, it's been over three weeks since I took it in. I wonder if it is ready, only someone else is driving my car around town, just a thought!

If you didnt' tell them, "Take your time" or "I'm in no hurry", stay on them, and ask why it is taking so long. It's just a 700, fer pete's sake ...Don't be confrontational, just ask when you can expect to have it back. A lot of trans shops will let cars sit like that, until they have the time to finish...remember, they will have other jobs to do at the same time. You do need to let them know you are ready to pick the car up if you are. If they think you don't have the money, or you're not hounding them for it, it will get put on the back burner.
It's a sad commentary on my business, but, unfortunately, that's the way it is anymore. It didn't used to be like this...

I've had an '85 Vette at the shop since Jan. of last year...it took them that long to come up with the $$$ to fix it. Now, it's ready, but they ain't picked it up yet.

You may want to drop by and visit with them. Check the car out and make sure there is no damage to it, especially around the bumper areas...

Well, just when I was wondering about my car, unexpectedly the tranny shop called yesterday about 1pm and said my car was ready. They just never work on a Saturday and the whole crew was there. I guess the repair business is booming and they are very very busy. He thanked me for giving him the extra time and he said he personally made sure it was a first class job and took extra time on it.
Only time will tell, but I'm happy.
