Have anybody changed the clutch pack in the differential themselves(74), and is it possible to do that with the case still mounted in the car? (I have a friend that has done such operation on his 71 Camaro)

Is there any good sites that show how this is done?

I have just bought a Dragvette 6-link kit and dont have time to remove the case also before next race.... So I was hoping it was possible to change clutch pack in a "easy" way!Wink

You can remove the diff gearset without removing the entire rear-end assy., but it is a MAJOR pain to do it this way. It's actually easier to remove the entire diff.
The only way to get to the posi clutches is by dis-assembling the differential... The posi clutch-pack in the Corvette diff is spring-loaded, and requires a good deal of patience to do. The ring gear and carrier assy need to be removed from the housing, but the stub axles have to be removed first. They are held into the diff with snap-rings, which take special pliers to get off/on. Then the center pin needs to be removed, which is held in with a long shoulder bolt. Once the center pin is out, the clutch pack and springs will have to be pried out carefully. The springs and pre-load plates are not tied together, so once the assy comes out, the four springs will fall out, and may get lost, so you need to watch for them. They are really strong, which is what makes it so hard to get them out, and put them back in.
You also need to pay attention to the number, and location of the clutch plates that come out, as you will need to re-assemble with the same number of new clutch plates, in the same order.
You'll also need to put in a couple of bottles of posi lube once the diff is reassembled. I usually use posi lube to lube the clutches as I build the diff...that way, they start out with the special lube already on the surfaces of the clutch plates.

Don't know of any sites that may have step-by-step info, but I'm sure there's some out there.
