Has anyone intalled the tranny tunnel insulator with the transmission still installed. I'm going to be replacing my shifter soon and thought I might be able to sneak that insulator in at the same time. I also would like to install the foam collar as well.

Any ideas?

I think it can be done, but, I've never tried it. I know the foam collar can be installed with the trans in, 'cause I have done that!

If you have a 4 speed, the tunnel insulation should go on, but you may need to remove the shifter/linkage. With an automatic, it's gonna be tight, if not impossible!

I had the tunnel insulation replaced (the original was all wadded up).  This was done with the tranny out.

I had the tunnel insulation installed when Joel was rebuilding my trans.  Couldn't tell much difference heat wise, but I didn't put the foam collar in. I hear that makes a significant difference. Approx. # 78 on my to do list.  I don't think you could install the tunnel insul.  with the trans. in. Just not enough room. My 2 cents.

Joel did your tranny?  Did he do a good job??   When the time comes (hopefully not soon), I was gonna let "THE JOEL" rebuild that Muncie.  I had the foam collar replaced at the same time with the insulation.  The tranny was out.  I could tell a difference.

Well, it grinds going into first, can't get it into second and have no reverse. Like most of his advise..crappy

No, he did a great job. Probably the ONLY thing I've EVER had done that was right. Now if I could just get him to do the rest of what it needs............ Got a job yet, Joel?

Charlie - my car didn't have the tranny tunnel insulator installed. PO removed it. I got a new one to put in while the tranny is out. I don't think you'll be able to get it in with the tranny in the car - just not enough room.

How did you rivet in the clips that hold the insulation?
My clips are damaged and I need to put new ones in.

You didn't mention if you have a manual or automatic.  If automatic, you can remove the crossmember and lower the back of the transmission a bit.  With a four speed, you can remove the transmission mount and gain a little extra room.  You might do a little cosmetic damage to it, but I bet you can get it in.

Good luck

LET ME TELL YOU THIS - JOEL DID SOMETHING HUMANLY IMPOSSIBLE! Last year on a trip to DFW, the valet completely messed up Dwains trans. Joel with only a hanger rigged up the trans to getter home. This is at midnight in a dark 7-11 lot. He is the lizard, oops, trans-king

Thanks for the info on the transmission insulation. I have a 4 speed manual and have it removed, so I have lots of room to work.

A couple of questions, how do you install the rivets for the clips?

Also what adhesive is used to install the foam seal between the bellhousing and the tunnel? Is the seal attached to bellhousing or to tunnel?
What is the proper location of the seal?

[/QUOTE] Spray contact adhesive...just spray on both sufaces...let it get tacky..apply the foam seal. It goes on the fiberglass tunnel as it starts at the firewall. As far as the rivets...that gets a bit tricky. You might consider an adhesive like RTV to fasten on the brackets if yours are gone. You can rivet with a regular rivet gun, but you need to back up the backside with a fender washer.
