Hi all,

Changed gasket & filter on the 350 Turbo Hydromatic. ( couple of weeks ago ). How many quarts of tranny fluid does it take?? So far, I have put 4 qts in and it doesn't register on the dip stick.

4 quarts should have filled it, unless it was low to begin with, or the pan was off for an extended time, and more fluid than normal drained out. If in doubt, go ahead and add small amounts until it shows the correct fluid level. It's better to have a lil too much than not enough. 😉

Also...are you sure it has the correct dipstick & tube? 

 Here's a tip for everyone, and it is true for pretty much ANY auto trans with a removable pan. While you have the pan off doing a fluid change, or whatever, insert the dipstick fully into the tube, Then, mark the stick with a line(file, notch, whatever) LEVEL with the bottom edge of the pan rail on the trans. This is a true indicator of the needed fluid level when hot. This is helpful if you do not know the stick/tube is correct, or if you have one of the aftermarket tubes/stick assemblies....or any other issues. Sometimes, the sticks, or sticks and tubes get replaced, or lost, or just got something stuck in it to plug the hole. Marking the stick like this will give you the correct fluid level, with the fluid hot, regardless of the stick-tube combination. If the combo is correct for the trans, the mark you make will be just about in the center of the hash marked area of the stick. If it is not then now you have a correct level mark to use.  🤠

I re-gasketing and replacing the rear tail housing on my M20 4-speed trans for my '68 BB. No dipsticks (obviously) for this and if I remember correctly you fill to the inlet port height.

2 quarts on mineral oil based right????

I've been told not to use synthetic so it's conventional for me.  Is that what you mean by mineral oil?
